And the point is?[edit]

What is the point of this page exactly? I have two photos on this page that are in use on their correct pages. However, this page directs people to place the images on the wrong pages, one even to a wrong county in the wrong state. Someone has already done just that with one of my photos. Is anyone in charge of this page? Farragutful (talk) 14:01, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • User:Multichill is maintaining this page via his bot. From what I understand, the obviously wrong cases (wrong state, used photo ets) appear (i) either if the photo is labelled incorrectly on Commons; (ii) if a NRHP listing has several locations (even in different states) but the same number, then any photo under this number would pop up at the page until photos at all the locations will be added to the lists. There are cases however which I find difficult to explain - for instance, if the photo has been relabeled on Commons it looks like it could still reappear on this page.--Ymblanter (talk) 14:05, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Of course there are going to be a few glitches. There are apparently some incorrect NRHP refnums in the hidden column in the NRHP list-articles, which is not surprising because they have not been exposed and validated over a good long time, like other factoids in the NRHP list-articles. Maybe that is all that you mean, about a refnum here pointing to a wrong list-article?
After I add a pic here to a given list article, like I just did for "File:Old-fairfax-city-hall036.JPG", added by me to City of Fairfax Historic District, am I supposed to manually remove it from here? Who adds to here and who subtracts from here. I'd just like to help properly. --doncram 12:28, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You can leave the picture here and it will be removed by the bot tomorrow, but since in September several people will be working simultaneously on the page it is easier to remove manually what you have done to save time to others (who would try to insert the picture to the list just to find out that it is already there).--Ymblanter (talk) 12:45, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and every picture should go to the list as well, not only to the article. (May be you did that, I have not yet checked).--Ymblanter (talk) 12:46, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

More updates?[edit]

Is there any possibility of having the bot update this page more often during September? I notice that the page hit it's maximum 400 thumbs limit on the last run, and had a couple hundred more not visible. Since we're manually pulling images as well, maybe a 2 or 3 runs a day temporarily would be helpful. 25or6to4 (talk) 21:55, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll ask Multichill - my guess is it shouldn't be too hard if he's not frazzled by WLM by now :-/
BTW, notice that there are sites with multiple pix - if we can remove these it opens up a lot of space for the next day. Smallbones(smalltalk) 22:13, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And if there is some time left, it is a good practice to create separate Commons categories for these sites, so that all the images are easily accessible.--Ymblanter (talk) 05:52, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated listings[edit]

Some photos have been repeatedly relisted as unused due to errors in their NRHP number. If anyone sees it happen, please list them here so their numbers can be checked and/or changed, either in the lists here or the photo's NRHP tag on Commons.  Thundersnow  16:13, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problem images[edit]

Is the bot in tune?[edit]

I checked yesterday and today and photos that are already in the county lists are being uploaded here, and then being re-uploaded the next day. Is there any way to check up on what's happening?

Smallbones(smalltalk) 17:19, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. It keeps bringing a house at 31 Lenox Avenue Street in Worcester, Massachusetts back, over and over again, despite the fact that the image can be found both in the article and on the NRHP list for that part of the city. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 14:27, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure the ID is only used in one list?--Ymblanter (talk) 14:31, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it's in the National Register of Historic Places listings in northwestern Worcester, Massachusetts, and it's in the George Gabriel House article, so yeah. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 19:52, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Strange. Let us ping @Multichill:, may be he has some magic left.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:57, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Guys, this is easy to find. There is no magic involved here, just good old logic. The image is File:31_Lenox_Street,_Worcester_MA.jpg and in the description it has 80000523. This tells you that National_Register_of_Historic_Places_listings_in_northwestern_Worcester,_Massachusetts has an item with id 80000523 without an image. You open the list, search and you'll see that pos 38 has an image. Don't stop now, you'll see that pos 39 has the same id, but no image. That's the source of your problem. Multichill (talk) 21:01, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks. Will have a look now what happened.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:03, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see, you have already corrected it. Hopefully this solves the problem.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:05, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
With that image yes. However, it keeps bringing back File:R.D._Eaton_Residence.jpg over and over again, despite the fact that it too is used both in the article and on the related NRHP list. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 18:17, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That was the same problem, except this time the entry for the Eaton Residence gave the refnum of a different listing in the county, as did the article and the image. I went ahead and fixed all three. (I suspect duplicate refnum issues are the cause of most of these regenerating images, though I'm not sure why there are so many of those issues in the first place.) Two plaques and how they can be used[edit]

You know, if you convert List of New York State Historic Markers in Suffolk County, New York with parameters for images, like other NYS Historical Marker lists have, you can use at least two of the historical markers shown here. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 18:02, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
