NC wikiproject

How many of you guys agree that NC is a bureaucratic nightmare? I looked at Charlotte then I looked at the metro area then my head started to rotate in confusion. I vuleenter my services and forgive my spelling. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mazman34340 (talkcontribs) 02:17, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Goldsboro

Anyone have any pictures of the city or area?--AgnosticPreachersKid (talk) 09:55, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Allen Joines

Just as a head's up, Allen Joines, the current mayor of Winston-Salem, is listed as an intensive care article. It could really use some help if someone can find the time. I just added a picture, but I won't be able to get to it until at least the summer. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 01:18, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Project North Carolina: Articles of unclear notability

Hello,

there are currently 10 articles in the scope of this project which are tagged with notability concerns. I have listed them here. (Note: this listing is based on a database snapshot of 12 March 2008 and may be slightly outdated.)

I would encourage members of this project to have a look at these articles, and see whether independent sources can be added, whether the articles can be merged into an article of larger scope, or possibly be deleted. Any help in cleaning up this backlog is appreciated. For further information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Notability.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the Notability project page or on my personal talk page. (I'm not watching this page however.) Thanks! --B. Wolterding (talk) 16:55, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

I have nominated this article for Featured Article Review. Please come and review it, and help it retain FA status! Judgesurreal777 (talk) 22:41, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Newsletter

Any thoughts on starting a newsletter for this project? - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 19:53, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

That sounds like a good idea. Maybe it will spark some interest in the project again. APK yada yada 23:54, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
OK, I have a bot which can deliver it. I could set up a newsroom project, but I would like to have someone to write for the newsletter. I have also found that newsletters do help to spark interest in projects, and hopefully this will do that, if I can get some help. - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 18:12, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Just let me know how I can be of assistance. I'll do what I can. APK yada yada 19:10, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
OK, maybe someone can write the first newsletter? - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 17:21, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I'll work on it. I'm busy in RL for the next few days, but will try to come up with a rough draft asap. APK yada yada 18:21, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Here's where you can write the rough draft: Wikipedia:WikiProject North Carolina/Newsroom/Newsletter/May 2008. Let me know when you finish. Thanks! - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 19:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

My laptop was stolen yesterday (see my talk page for details), so I'm not able to edit as much right now. I'll add what I can tonight since I got my old desktop working, but because it's verrry slow and patience is not one my strong points, I might not be posting that much over the next few days. APK yada yada 00:10, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I created a rough draft. Feel free to look it over and make necessary changes and improvements. APK yada yada 03:21, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Gracias. APK yada yada 21:37, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
Hope everyone likes the newsletter. We better start working on a June newsletter also now. - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 01:25, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Duke University FAR

Duke University has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here. 152.2.128.80 (talk) 00:48, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

June newsletter

Who's going to write the June newsletter? - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 19:30, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello? - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 17:13, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I recently listed Cook Out (restaurant) for deletion only to get a flood of "keep"s from users asserting its notability without doing much in the way of providing sources. Although I did find one source, I think that the article would benefit from some TLC from North Carolinians. Anyone up for the job? Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 23:30, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

The problem I see is that there really isn't any sources per se for Cookout. The only things on the internet are the occasional news article about the restaurant. Past that, there is nothing. I've seen the corporate office before, but that was just in passing. I must admit, it is hard to grab sources for a restaurant that is not only local, but does not even have its own website (to which I am very surprised). I would have assumed that once it started quickly expanding, a website would have been created; apparently that is the last on their priority list. That being said, I agree that the article needs a nice cleanup; however, it is a difficult if not near impossible task to add to an encyclopedia built on sources when there are few, if at all, any. Assistance Requested at AfC

Hi there, I'm working on the WP:AFC backlog and I came across this request: Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation/2008-06-15#Stokes.2C_Pitt_County.2C_North_Carolina. I can't tell if this is worth it's own article. Any advice/taking care of the article would be appreciated. I'm going to cross post this to Wikiproject Cities also. Thanks! Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 633 of the articles assigned to this project, or 14.5%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 18 June 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. Subsribing is easy - just add a template to your project page. If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 17:46, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! List of Carolina Basketball Seasons

I thought someone from this wikiproject might be interested in helping me create a Featured List for Seasons for the UNC men's basketball team. It is modeled on the list of seasons for the Applachian State Football team, which is a Featured List. You can check out what I have done so far here - User:Remember/SandboxUNC. Please feel free to collaborate with me on this user page. Just so you know, I don't want to move this list onto its own page until it is in good shape and can qualify for a DYK candidate. Any help you could give would be appreciated. Remember (talk) 15:03, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for North Carolina

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:54, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello to everybody in this project. The WikiProject Ice Hockey is currently looking for editors to help update team articles about the 2008-09 NHL season. If you are interested in the NHL, please consider helping us keep these article current. To sign up, go to this page and add your name beside the team or teams you wish to particpate in. Hope to here back from you, GrszReview! 16:47, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

I just added this article (couldn't believe it wasn't already there) and will be going this saturday oct 25 to get some images for a gallery. I could use a little help on the article. I'm better at facts and photography than smooth flowing articles. I have also worked on High Rock Lake, Abbotts Creek, Lexington, NC (just moved here from Greensboro) and other NC topics. Not sure if there is more I can do. Not a native, but moved to NC in 1992 and loved it enough to stay. PHARMBOY (TALK) 23:05, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Well done :-) Morphh (talk) 23:44, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Nice to hear every now and then. Keep an eye out for the pictures next week. PHARMBOY (TALK) 00:03, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
  • I just added the article Pigs in the City which is the art initiative by Lexington, and ends when the festival starts. I did add a ton of images to both articles as well, and I added some other images that are davidson county related, images of memorials from ww2/korea/vietnam and of course, festival and pig images, at User:Pharmboy/Gallery. I will try to keep that updated with all the images I upload, which will mainly be NC related. Oh, and I changed my name here to my real name now. Pharmboy --> DENNIS BROWN (T) (C) 13:41, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
  • Update Pigs in the City made DYK on November 10, 2008. Maybe reevaluate the article on the quality scale? I have it at a B currently, but it is pretty complete and up to date. DENNIS BROWN (T) (C) 11:47, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

North Carolina articles needing geographic coordinates

175 articles in Category:North Carolina articles missing geocoordinate data do not have geographic coordinates. Coords are useful for making the article appear on Google Maps & many other mapping services; and they allow our users to click through to see the article subject location on a map. There's a short guide to on how to add geocodes to articles ... it really is very easy to do. I hope you'll take some time to ensure that North Carolina is as well represented as it can be on wikipedia by fixing up the listed articles. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:36, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Request to take article off project

  • For two years, the team occupied a shop in Mooresville, North Carolina before moving to the current facility in Harrisburg, North Carolina. I don't see how it is irrelevant to the project. Seems relevant enough to me. I oppose the project template delete. Morphh (talk) 1:21, 03 June 2008 (UTC)
