  • Georgie Anne Geyer called Tunisia the country that works, let's make the project work! Chris 09:08, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Absolutely not. The article that is available is already bad enough. It is extremely biased, and presents Tunisia in a context alien to it. Rather than present it as the Mediterranean country that it is, it is presented as an African country, with its Arab identity denied, and the Berber one highlighted. As a Tunisian, I can assert for a fact that Berbers are in fact the minority and looked upon as outsiders, as others, and are usually of the lower masses. Most of what is being written about this is based on a study of not even 20 individuals undoubtedly picked from a locale that is not representive of the Tunisian population, with its Arab, Turkish, Italian and sundry other roots. Most of your names do not sound Tunisian nor Arab and I am afraid another grotesque article will be created, based mostly on wishful thinking. I hope wikipedia doesn't last long, it is certainly doing a disservice to history and the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.88.232.156 (talkcontribs)

All of your edits on here have been biased and very anti-Wikipedia, you even delete sourced text. Your comments may safely be ignored. Chris 10:25, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

New project

Dear all,
I would like to welcome the creation of the Wikiproject Tunisia ! As member of your French-speaking counterpart, I hope that we will collaborate to better the articles about Tunisia as we have some articles in English we would like to translate in French. I think the contrary is also true because of the number of articles we have. Best regards, Moumou82 18:47, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Kairouan is located in Tunisia
Kairouan
Kairouan
Kairouan (Tunisia)

I've added a Tunisia map to the Template:Location map collection, to make it easy to add location maps to articles with a red location pog to mark a particular latitude and longitude. For more examples at different sizes, see here.

It should be easy to add such maps to Settlement Infoboxes, just by filling in the "pushpin map" field, but for some reason I can't get this to work yet -- for some reason the latitude/longitude information isn't getting through properly, and it ends up with the pin in the middle of the bottom of the map. Don't (yet) know why this is going wrong.

One thing I might change, if I have time in the next fortnight or so, would be to make the map more "landscape" rather than "portrait" -- I think that will make it work better stacked below landscape format photos in Infoboxes. But that means I need to get hold of vector graphics of some more African coast.

As well as the East-West cropping, we might also like to think about the North-South cropping. At the moment, the map is cropped fairly tight on the country. But for recognition, a wider map might include the top of Sicily, or even compare this Carthage map, from Commons.

Anyhow, let me know what you all think. :-) Jheald 11:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Project banner

It is my sincerest hope that this statement is not taken as being an attempt to subvert this project, take control over it, or any similar thing. However, the Template:AfricaProject has recently had parameters put into it to allow it to provide separate assessments for all the "Africa" projects, including this one. If in the interests of reducing banner clutter the members of this project were to choose to use that banner, please let me know and I can adjust any categories accordingly to permit it. Thank you. John Carter (talk) 00:20, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

I believe this very unique culture, with a one-of-a-kind alphabet Tifinagh and history dating back as far as ancient Egypt, merits it's own WikiProject. There is a beautiful portal at Portal:Berbers, and I think Wikipedia would benefit greatly from this. Chris 09:38, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

We're up and running! Please visit and contribute at Wikipedia:WikiProject Berbers! Thanks! Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 05:39, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Proposal to consolidate African country WikiProject banners

Template:AfricaProject was recently modified, and now contains individual parameters for all countries in Africa (see usage notes). Since project-specific assessment for all African countries can now be accomplished through the template, a proposal has been made at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Africa to consolidate all individual African country WikiProject banners.

Comments or suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you, Black Falcon (Talk) 23:29, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Tunisia

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! African cinema task force

An African cinema task force has been proposed at WikiProject Films, which would include the cinema of Tunisia. Interested editors are encouraged to sign up - if there is enough interest, then the task force will be created! Many thanks, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 04:05, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:50, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

The article Mahares needs a little work. Would appreciate any help, though I have added an infobox and map. Does anyone have its proper Arabic spelling? MatthewVanitas (talk) 05:03, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 04:05, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Tunisia articles edited by an IP

An IP editor (86.179.28.131 (talk)) made several edits to Politics of Tunisia‎, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, Tunisia, and Elections in Tunisia that might be POV-pushing. Other editors and I reverted some of these, but I don't know enough about the topics to know what is and is not POV. Someone familiar with Tunisian politics might want to check these edits out, and feel free to revert my reversions if I made them in error. Thanks, PDCook (talk) 04:21, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Tunisia/Archive 2007-2014/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Tunisia/Archive 2007-2014/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 23:21, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey guys,we Lebanon and Tunisia share a common history; Eshmun was a common deity of the peoples of coastal Lebanon and Carthage and cities from all over the Phoenician world built temples to honor the deity. The greatest of these temples rose in Carthage, it's Lebanese counterpart is a lot older and not less important. I have nominated the Eshmun Temple for featured article, feel free to check out the Eshmun temple featured article entry and leave your comments. Thank youEli+ 16:11, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Tunisia articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Tunisia articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:26, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

This article needs a serious overhaul. The article currently purports to discuss the modern city. However, nearly all sections discuss merely Ancient Carthage, and would be better merged into that article and its spin-offs. While a section on the municipality's history is relevant, it would be useful to have details of the modern municipality (population, demographics, administration, landmarks, economy, transport, education, religion, culture etc). Compare with how Rome, Athens or Jerusalem are treated!

I realise project members are likely to be somewhat involved at the moment, with recent events in Tunisia, but feel this really does need to be a priority for the project. After all, it is at the present time that most visitors will probably land on the article. Skinsmoke (talk) 23:40, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

This article is currently C class and High importance to this project. I have taken this article as far as my abilities will allow being only a novice editor. As it is of High importance I am requesting that some more veteran editor take a look at seeing if it can be improved to B class or better considering the importance of the subject to modern Tunisian history. Thank you for your consideration. Glennconti (talk) 16:02, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Experienced editors with specialist regional knowledge urgently wanted

The Arbitration Committee is seeking to appoint additional people to the CheckUser and Oversight teams, in particular people with specialist knowledge.

Because of increasing activity in the South Asian, Southeast Asian, or Middle Eastern regions, CheckUser applications are particularly sought from people who not only meet our general requirements but also are familiar with the ISPs and typical editing patterns of any of these regions.

Successful candidates are likely to be regularly available and already familiar with local and global processes, policies, and guidelines especially those concerning CheckUser and Oversight. CheckUser candidates are expected to be technically proficient, and previous experience with OTRS is beneficial for Oversight candidates. All candidates must at least 18 years of age; have attained legal majority in their jurisdiction of residence; and be willing to identify to the Wikimedia Foundation prior to receiving permissions. If you think you may be suitably qualified, please see the appointments page for further information. The application period is scheduled to close 18 September 2011.  Roger Davies talk 15:46, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
