Proposed move to 'Optical telecommunications'[edit]

Communications is essentially devoted to the social sciences and this category is incorrectly named. If the move is uncontroversial, I will have the category renamed as 'Optical telecommunications'. This has already occurred with the topics main article, Optical telecommunications. HarryZilber (talk) 13:34, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I agree with this change. Not all optical communications is long-distance. Optical fiber is also used for short connections within buildings, for example. I disagree with the assertion that "communications" can only refer to the social sciences. The term has multiple meanings. If anything, the technological meaning is primary for "communications", used as a plural.--Srleffler (talk) 06:33, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As discussed at Talk:Optical telecommunication, the topic of optical communication is broader than that of optical telecommuncation. They are not the same thing.--Srleffler (talk) 03:04, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
