Talmud[edit]

There has been some discussion on the Talmud page regarding its inclusion on this category page. It would be helpful to discuss here what sorts of texts should be included in this category. If the purpose of this category page is to easily link to articles about aramaic texts, I would propose that Talmud should indeed link here.

It has been argued that because the Talmud includes Mishna, which is written in Hebrew, it should not be listed as an Aramaic text. I believe this takes the Aramaic Texts category too literally. If we included works that only contained Aramaic, this would become a very small and virtually useless category. The Book of Daniel contains a significant amount of Hebrew. Frahang-i_Pahlavig contains Pahlavi(Middle Persian).

As noted in the Talmud article, the term Talmud is often used interchangeably with Gemara. Whichever term you prefer, the Talmud (or Gemara) contains a large amount of Aramaic, and, is significant to scholars studying the Aramaic language. I believe Talmud should remain in this category. Other works should also be included. Anyone care to comment? Guedalia D'Montenegro 02:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inscriptions[edit]

Should Aramaic inscriptions be included in this category? Guedalia D'Montenegro 02:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
