Oliver Wheldon (born 10 March 2011) is an American-British racing driver from St. Petersburg.[1] He currently competes in the Skip Barber Formula Race Series.[2] He is a member of Andretti Global's driver development programme.[3]

Career[edit]

Karting[edit]

Wheldon had a highly successful karting career. His first major title came in 2020, when he won the Florida Winter Tour in the Micro Rok category.[4] Then, he moved up to Mini karting for 2021. He finished 3rd in the category in the SKUSA SuperNationals, a notable result since it was his first year in the category.[5] He then competed in KA100 Junior for the first time in 2022, again in the SKUSA SuperNationals. However, his most impressive outing of all in karting was in the 2023 season. Wheldon fought for the KA100 Junior title in the SuperNationals, eventually finishing 4th in the championship.[6] He fought for the overall win in the X30 Junior category of the SuperNationals, finishing in 3rd place.[7]

Lower formulae[edit]

In 2024, Wheldon was announced to be making his debut in open-wheel racing by joining the Skip Barber Formula Race Series, the series which his brother Oliver won the year before.[8] Wheldon scored a podium in his debut race weekend.[9]

Personal life[edit]

Wheldon is the son of Brit and former IndyCar champion Dan Wheldon, who was killed in an accident at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2011.[10] His older brother Sebastian is currently competing in the 2024 USF Juniors.[11]
