Not a NASA photo, not public domain[edit]

From the age of the subject, the props, and the background, this photo was clearly taken in the 1960s on the set of Star Trek: The Original Series. NASA presumably gained the right to use the photo for publicity purposes but it isn't self-evident that the work is in the public domain or that there is a fair-use rationale for its publication on Wikipedia. 73.92.193.211 (talk) 21:07, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I just stumbled across a reference that says the photo was "a Star Trek publicity photograph" from the 1960s and therefore not intrinsically public domain: https://repository.si.edu/bitstream/handle/10088/30908/201302SH.pdf . While it's theoretically possible that Norway, Desilu, Paramount, or NBC may have provided some kind of release that would allow the use of this work on Wikipedia, there is no evidence that such a release exists. Either a new rationale must be provided, or the image must be removed, which would be a shame. 73.92.193.211 (talk) 21:22, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This was worked out in a discussion ten years ago, and it was unanimously determined that we should trust NASA when they say it's one of their own. commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Nichelle-Nichols-GPN-2004-00017.jpg. Elizium23 (talk) 09:30, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
