Nemo Mettler (born 3 August 1999), known mononymously as Nemo, is a Swiss rapper and singer who plays the violin, piano and drums.[2] They[a] represented Switzerland and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "The Code", giving Switzerland their first win since 1988.[3][4]

Nemo Mettler was born in Biel/Bienne, in the Canton of Bern/Berne.[5] Their father is Markus Mettler, an entrepreneur and inventor, and their mother is Nadja Schnetzler, a journalist.[6] They have a sister named Ella who collaborates with them in the artistic direction of projects.[7] Nemo approached music from the age of three, learning to play the violin, piano and drum; from age 9 to 13 they studied opera singing.[8] From age 13 they began to approach rap, performing at a number of Swiss contests, performing songs they wrote themself. They studied for a year at Zurich University of the Arts,[9] and later settled in Berlin to pursue their music career.[10]
Nemo's 2015 EP Clownfisch reached number 95 in the Swiss charts. In 2017, Nemo released a single "Du",[11] which reached number 4 in Switzerland.[12] On the second season of The Masked Singer Switzerland in 2021, Nemo was unmasked as a panda and finished in fifth place.[13]

On 29 February 2024, Nemo was announced as the Swiss representative in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "The Code", and performed in the second semi-final of the contest, on 9 May.[14] Nemo won the Eurovision final on 11 May with 591 points, becoming the first non-binary performer to win the contest.[15][16]
Personal life
In November 2023, Nemo came out as non-binary in an article in the SonntagsZeitung. In this article, Nemo also stated that they prefer to be referred to by their given name instead of pronouns in German,[17] and use they/them pronouns in English.[18][19]
