Ranking of 3rd place teams[edit]

Without a valid source confirming the procedure for ranking the 3rd place teams, we should not be speculating in the article about how we think it might happen, or what is expected to happen. I realize I was incorrect when I said (in my edit summary the first time I removed the 3rd place rankings section from the article) that the AFC historically did not use adjusted point totals when ranking teams from unequal groups. Just looking back to the qualification rounds for the previous edition of this tournament in 2010 they did, in fact, disregard results against 6th place teams because some groups only had 5 teams. However, this particular tournament presents a situation where we'll be comparing groups with 4, 5, and 6 teams; and while the logical decision would be to use each 3rd-place team's results against the 1st, 2nd, and 4th teams in their group and disregard the 5th and 6th, until we have information from the AFC stating that is what they will be doing we should not be presenting our opinion as fact in the article. Therefore I am once again removing the section listing the expected ranking of the 3rd place teams. LarryJeff (talk) 15:28, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
