next season[edit]

Next is the 2017 Spring Series. Maybe that doesn't even need an article but could be done in a section at the 2017-18 season article. FA WSL official site as statistics source[edit]

As the tournament organizer, it seems logical that the FA WSL site provides the official information about all aspects of the tournament. Regarding league tables, fixtures and results it is a reliable source, however for statistics such as goal scorers be aware there are issues.

As of today (27 March 2016), the player stats page shows Dominique Janssen (Arsenal) as the WSL 1 top scorer with 2 goals. But the FA WSL official site match report, contradicts that information. Looking at it, one must notice there is a "summary box" (left side below the headlines) indicating Dominique Janssen has scored twice and Danielle Carter once, but the report's body text clearly states that Arsenal goal scores were Dominique Janssen, Asisat Oshoala and Danielle Carter (even the report's headline mention a debut goal for Oshoala). I can only assume the FA WSL statistics info are generated out of data from the "summary box". I have faced the same issue last season (at the WSL Continental Cup goal scorers).

I would like to reach a consensus on how we can improve and make the goal scorers table accurate using reliable sources. These are some sources I know of:

soccerway.com - I assume it revises the stats according to official info (as until 26 March, it was showing Janssen and Oshoala with one goal each, but it has now changed).
flashscores.co.uk - is showing Oshoala as goal scorer but how reliable are they?
footballzz.com – players stats are blank.
soccerdonna.de (in German) – players stats are blank.

Which other women's football stats sources do you know of?

I suggest that we use the official site as the main source. Soccerway is a good secondary source and since both shows the same top scorers standings, I would suggest to use the official source on the article. Unless there are any official changes to the list, regarding Asisat Oshoala and Dominique Janssen's tally, the standings should stay as it is. MbahGondrong (talk) 12:18, 27 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is just wrong. Is it because it is female football? So if the whole world watches a game between Real Madrid and Barcelona with Messi scoring a goal, are we gonna leave the wrong info just because there was an error on laliga website? I watched the highlight of the game and Oshoala shared it on her IG handle. A simple Google search will let you know that Oshoala scored the goal. I suggest her goal is credited to her. The BBC is extremely good at both reporting matches on their website and showing the games back televised. Their sources clearly show Oshoala's goal. FATV (which is the official home for televising FA interests also has the official highlights of the game showing Oshoala's goal. This can also be seen on Youtube. This is not in dispute and the WSL site summary is incorrect despite the same article outlining and celebrating her goal complete with photo of said moment in the main article. Despite the contradiction, see this as a maths problem - the summary shows a 'number'; the main article shows the number AND the working behind it. Which source would you pull from? Table amended to show fact.

Soccerway is NOT a good source to use as it pulls information from websites they choose and not a collaboration of sources. For example, they had both a FC Midjaelland match and a Gibraltar National Football team match showing incorrect information and wrong scorers for almost 3 months and 6 months respectively. Official websites can and do get information wrong from time to time but 'facts' written down on the internet cannot be superseded by what you see in front of your eyes. Video evidence is almost entirely incorruptible in instances like this and must be treated as such.
