Area for further investigation[edit]

At some point post-war the 55th Mechanized Infantry Division was chosen as the "notional" unit used at Fort Leavenworth for CAS3 students' exercises. The following questions need to be answered to see if a separate article is needed:

  • Is there a connection to the 55th Infantry Division notionally created in WWII?
  • Does the 55th Mech use the same insignia as the WWII?

Online searching has not revealed anything of use. Offline research may be needed Graham1973 (talk) 12:12, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've just got my hands on a copy of Harold Coyle's "The Ten Thousand" and found that 55th Mechanized Infantry Division forms part of the fictional US 10th Corps the author features in his novel. Would like others opinion on if this is worth adding.Graham1973 (talk) 10:45, 25 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

Citations are OK. Coverage of the topic is far less than the normal B-class article. Questions that arise are (a) which generals were involved in creating the deception? (b) were the support units also entirely fake? (c) were there any real units involved? (d) is there evidence that the deception worked? Some topics are doomed to be forever Start class because there is so little information. This may be one of them. Assessed as Start Class. Djmaschek (talk) 19:39, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • Updated list. Questions: (e) what measures did the Allies take (e.g., fake radio signals, phony camps) in order to create the deception? (f) is there another article (link) or more background information about this type of deception? Djmaschek (talk) 20:06, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
