Ayahuasca

Hi,

It seems that for some reason, people are adverse to adding content about Rodgers' admission of drug use and claim that it is driving his success as MVP. After hearing those concerns and incorporating them into a revised edit, I don't fully understand why my revised language in edit https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aaron_Rodgers&oldid=1102359130 is still an issue. Concerns I've heard so far are:

@Muboshgu seemed to object to describing ayahuasca as a Schedule I drug, asserting that it perhaps wasn't one in whatever locations he took it in, and so claiming that this was a W:POV issue. While Schedule I is actually a UN designation, not a US one, I agree that it shouldn't be mentioned since there appears to be, per this article, some definitional debate about whether ayahuasca counts even though a refined version of its active ingredient, DMT, would be. Think my revised edit omits this, so should be addressed.

@Hey man im josh wrote "Not notable. We wouldn't normally have included this when weed was illegal about players who admitted to smoking" -- I addressed this concern by adding details about Rodgers thanking the drug for enabling his MVP performance, which seems clearly notable. Are there other concerns you still have, @Hey man im josh?

@Kante4 said he disagreed (or I'm assuming so since he said "3 editors" disagreed), but didn't explain why -- happy to hear more. Can you elaborate?

Thanks!

Secarctangent (talk) 19:42, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

You did take comments under advisement. In your last edit, the presentation was neutral. Rodgers has openly admitted using the hallucinogen ayahuasca,[1] and credits it for his MVP-winning performances in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.[2] is fine from a NPOV standpoint. However, giving it its own level 3 heading is WP:UNDUE, and the heading itself, Use of ayahuasca and Rodgers' belief it led to his 2020 and 2021 MVP awards is too long. That sentence can fit in the "Personal life" section, I think, without any headings. I'm curious to hear from Josh and Kante4. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:52, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
@Muboshgu I have no objection after the inclusion of what that fact might be notable.
Considering Rodgers stated he was vaccinated against COVID in an alternative way, might I suggest a section that includes the drug and vaccine info? Perhaps an alternative medicine section or something similar? Hey man im josh (talk) 20:13, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
That could work. Maybe? The COVID info seems to be spread throughout the article as it is now, though. Condensing it to one section may be helpful. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:08, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Also, please follow the WP:BRD cycle in the future: bold, revert, discuss. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:54, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Hey @Secarctangent, no pressure at all, just curious if you plan on re-adding the content at some point now that there's been a discussion? Hey man im josh (talk) 11:42, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

I just thought that it was not notable enough to be included and after two other edtiors removed it, i agreed with the removal. But if the consensus here at the talk page is to include it (somehow different), i won't oppose it. And as said, the BRD cycle should have been followed as it would have been easier for everyone. Too Long Template

I added {{Too long}} to this article and encourage editors to keep it unless the article is shortened. This article suffers from recentism, with way too much game-by-game detail. It lacks adequate summary style and includes ridiculous levels of detail ("Rodgers was also instructed to lower his body fat ratio from 15 percent to 12 percent", "The next week against the Minnesota Vikings, Rodgers completed 24 of 29 passes in a 44–31 victory", "Amongst quarterbacks, he finished third in rushing yards and fifth in rushing touchdowns", "Following the bye-week, despite a continuing knee injury, Rodgers had his third consecutive week with a 100+ quarterback rating, which included 286 yards passing, no interceptions, and a go-ahead 40-yard touchdown pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling in a 29–27 loss to the Los Angeles Rams."). There is an ungodly amount of references, with some sentences having 3-4 separate inline citations. The "Media appearances" section is basically a trivia list of random cameos and fun facts that serves little long-term encyclopedic value. I leave this here in hopes that it provides justification for the tag and encourages editors to trim where possible, instead of continually expanding it with frivolous details. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:56, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Just want to reiterate that without significant condensing of this article, the {{too long}} template should remain. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 03:26, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
Gonzo, what should be done to this article? « KENGRIFFEYFAN24 (talk)
Hi KENGRIFFEYFAN24, the article could use a significant rewrite with a focus on a high-level summary of Rodgers' career, instead of the current "game summary" type details that dominate the page. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:33, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
Is it acceptable to do it piece-by-piece or should it be done all at once? EZMedMan (talk) 15:52, 4 November 2022 (UTC)

No mention of misleading statements about vaccination status

Rodgers was fined $14,650 for misleading statements about his vaccination status. I think that is a significant controversy worth including. From NFL.com "The trade will be submitted to the league office in "a day or two,". Rodgers will sign a revised contract with Green Bay to facilitate the trade." I.e. more steps need to be gone through before he officially becomes a Jet. Will he become a Jet? Yes, (unless something major goes wrong with the trade) but something needs to be done with his Green Bay contract, to facilitate it. "There's still things that need to be done. It's not finalized, but we do expect it to be done in the next couple of days," Packers general manager Brian Gutenkunst said on 24 April, 2023 at Green Bay's pre-draft news conference, just minutes after news of the trade was reported. "We're expecting to have this done before the draft."Corotletha (talk) 07:33, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

That is just conformation that terms have been agreed and that Roger's next game will be as a Jet. Yesterday Gutenkunst said that a few things needed to be done before Rogers actually signed as a Jet. He said that it would happen before the draft. If it doesn't it would mess up the agreement for a swap of the 13th and 15th spots in the first round of this draft. The reality is that it has been confirmed that the trade will take place, not that it has yet happened. Earnulf Gery (talk) 15:26, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Please hold off on updating this article until the league office and/or the Jets officially confirm the trade. There is literally no reason not to change it now. This is ridiculous. SteelersDiclonious (talk) 14:22, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

  • This effort from Wikipedia editors to smell their own farts and not change this page to him being a Jets player (he's literally wearing a Jets sweatshirt!!!) might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. 24.124.112.210 (talk) 16:08, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Rodgers has reported to Jets HQ to sign his contract in a Jets sweatshirt

What more is there to say? It’s been submitted to the league office and it’s been made official by all parties involved, CHANGE THE PAGE 2603:8001:2E07:2D00:AC5C:F49E:8A3C:E509 (talk) 14:32, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Let us know when he actually signs the contract. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 14:36, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
It's a trade. Restructuring isnt a free agent deal. He'll be at the podium soon. --2601:249:9100:2BF0:64A4:652A:A7C7:A1C3 (talk) 14:48, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Exactly. He has a contract, and Green Bay traded him aka his rights to NYJ. He was not a free agent signing with the Jets. conman33 (. . .talk) 16:41, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

I've never seen so many edit requests....

The Jets Owner Woody Johnson tweeted out a video of Rodgers walking into the facility in a Jets sweatshirt welcoming him to the team. It currently has well north of 1M views, which is as many or more than this Wikipedia page in the last 24 hrs. It's time to at least draft the paragraph surrounding the trade and all of the back and forth, AND they've announced it and agreed in principle 96.56.96.182 (talk) 17:57, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

The "agreed in principle" part was exactly why it took so long to update. Our hands were tied until they officially announce it, which finally happened right now. Troutfarm27 (Talk) 18:06, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
People can bitch all they want, but "in principle" is very clearly not the same as being official. The most notable recent example would probably be Josh McDaniels agreeing in principle to be the Colts' head coach.
Wikipedia is fact based, and the fact of the matter is, Rodgers' becoming a member of the Jets had not been official. Plain and simple. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:16, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Hey man im josh, I think it is now, as in just happened, so it looks like the page was updated. Long time no talk, btw :) Sorry, works been busy! SPF121188 (talk this way) (my edits) 18:25, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Lowest career interceptions percentage

Question on that record. Is it among quarterbacks with a certain number of passing attempts? I can't believe there aren't several NFL quarterbacks who have a 0% percentage, but have like 5 total passing attempts for their career. Royal Autumn Crest (talk) 01:50, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

@Royal Autumn Crest: Yes, according to the reference, the career minimum for passing is 1,500 attempts, so only players who have made that many attempts are considered. ––FormalDude (talk) 01:57, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, didn't see that in the side box. I'll add that now. Royal Autumn Crest (talk) 01:59, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

Lead

Random thought; In the lead, where it reads "Rodgers is regarded amongst the greatest quarterbacks of all time, as well as one of the most talented quarterbacks of all time." Would it work to revise and say "Rodgers is regard as one of the greatest and most talented quarterbacks of all time."? Or is this maybe separated out because of the references saying either one differentiates them? Just a thought. Didn't want to change it and mess up any references/intentions. Thanks!  Done here. Brevity is the soul of wit, after all. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:39, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your help, Muboshgu, much appreciated! I get nervous trying to re-arrange sentences like that when the references are separated to attribute them to a certain point. Thanks again! SPF121188 (talk this way) (my edits) 18:55, 27 April 2023 (UTC)

Jersey Number Change

Would it be worth adding a sentence in the brief section on his Jets career to indicate that he switched from No. 12 to No. 8 since 12 is retired by the Jets in honor of Joe Namath? 8 is also what he wore in college.

Something like:

"When he joined the Jets, Rodgers changed his jersey number from 12 to 8, which he had worn while at Cal. At his introductory press conference, Rodgers stated that while he had Joe Namath's blessing to wear the No. 12 jersey that's retired in Namath's honor, 'To me, No. 12 is Broadway Joe and I didn’t even want to go down that path. I’m excited about going back to my college number.'”

New Image

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Aaron_Rodgers_NY_Jets.jpg

I uploaded an image of Rodgers in a Jets uniform with the idea that it could replace the image of him in a Packers uniform in the infobox at the beginning of this article since he is no longer in Green Bay. I did this before I realized this article was locked to editing. Would someone who can edit the article upload this image of Rodgers in the infobox? Thanks. Clarification of the Jimmy Kimmel comments by Aaron Rogers

discussing the not-yet-published Epstein list, Aaron Rodgers said quote "a lot of people , including Jimmy Kimmel, are hoping that it won't come out."

The description included on the page of the quote is prejudicial and makes a judgement statement on the meaning of the quote, but does not state the quote itself. This is contrary to recommended practices here as I understand them. Subsequent comments are possibly not impartial. I suggest replacing the summary of the quote with just the quote as Aaron Rogers himself said.
