”Peanut smuggling” arrest[edit]
“where he was arrested by customs officials for smuggling peanuts in his underpants.” I can find no verification of this, and Alastair Stewart himself has dismissed that statement as pure fiction (http://www.channelonline.tv/channelonline_jerseynews/displayarticle.asp?id=449973). Quite how it has remained in place for over a year, I do not know!
Heavy smoker[edit]
Shouldn't it be mentioned that he was a chain smoker? This probably caused his vascular dementia. (2A00:23C5:C416:A601:708B:81C5:9A73:A4BD (talk) 18:45, 4 April 2024 (UTC))
- Yes, The Telegraph tells us: "smoked since his teens and once smoked 40 cigarettes a day". And also The Guardian: "Stewart is also a Rolling Stones fan and a heavy smoker who has been known to stop his car on the way to the office to squeeze in a few more cigarettes before work". - Smoking 40 cigarettes a day wasn't all that unusual some years ago. It's not that noteworthy unless there is clear medical evidence that it caused problems.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 19:05, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- That's true. But it was just as dangerous for all who did. I think it may be noteworthy in the context of his diagnosis and his efforts to give up (which have now been successful). I agree it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to find any source that says "smoking probably caused his vascular dementia". Martinevans123 (talk) 19:11, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
