– SNL actor appears to be the primary topic here, with 99.19% of all pageviews and no significant long-term challengers. Also, as the creator of the Alex Moffat DAB page, I can attest that, for years, editors have repeatedly linked to it assuming it's the SNL guy... • Support per nom.--Ortizesp (talk) 19:32, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong oppose. The comedian has gained some temporary fame as a bit player on an American television show. Others with this name have much greater overall significance. Alex Moffat (American football) was a key figure in the development of the rules for American football (served on the sports's rules committee for the first 21 years of its existence), invented the drop kick, and was inducted to the sport's Hall of Fame for his role there. Alex Moffat (trade unionist) also appears to be an important historical figure. Elevating a stub article on a minor pop culture figure above quality articles about important historical figures is surely a bad SNL joke. Cbl62 (talk) 17:49, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have only ever made good jokes in my Wikipedia career. Not that I intend to disregard WP:PRIMARYTOPIC#2, or I would've placed the comedian at the basename back when I moved the football player. But after 3 years of constant mislinks and the other two "important historical figures" getting less pageviews than the DAB, I figure readers have spoken. Also, for what it's worth, this article is not a stub despite its current classification. Nohomersryan (talk) 22:19, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. An overwhelming WP:primary topic. With the dab page itself getting as many views as all other Alex Moffats combined,[1] almost everyone landing on Alex Moffat wants the comedian; there's no good reason to force them elsewhere. Station1 (talk) 20:47, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. It makes the most sense, as the SNL comedian is more well known. David O. Johnson (talk) 22:52, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. A question of WP:RECENTISM. As of this year, yes, the SNL player has some modest pop culture notoriety. He was virtually unknown five years ago when he was 33 years old and is likely to be forgotten in 15 years when he is in his mid-50s, and his temporary pop culture notoriety has passed. Alex Moffat (American football), by contrast, has enduring notability for more than 140 years from his contributions to the sport of football and his induction into the Hall of Fame. Is recent pop culture fame what matters most in the naming protocol for an encyclopedia? Cbl62 (talk) 23:29, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing recent about this. It's been the consistent primary topic since September 2016. We can move it back in 15 years if he's really forgotten by then. Station1 (talk) 05:27, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The primary topic can change later. Shhhhwwww!! (talk) 09:29, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
