Arkay Renko[edit]

Is clearly Ukrainian. This is explained in "Wolves Eat Dogs". The Renko name is Ukrainian, not Russian. WWStone 22:07, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I've just read that novel, "Wolves Eat Dogs". The name Renko is mentioned as being Ukrainian, but from Renko's attitude and reflections about the Ukrainians in Chernobyl and from the fact that he is repeatedly corrected because he pronounces the cities name "Chernobyl" (Russian pronounciation) instead of "Chornobyl" (Ukrainian pronounciation) I think it is safe to conclude that he is Russian. Age and Date of Birth?[edit]

Based on the timing of the novels, and the Russian world they reflect, could we say that Arkady was born somewhere between 1950-1954? L. Thomas W. (talk) 15:10, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Also - in Stalin's Ghost Arkady is said to be 12 years old with his father in Afghanistan in a Soviet Military Camp." I just finished reading that book. The quoted statement is true, but I think is either a brain fart by the author or a deliberate writerly technique beyond my understanding, because elsewhere in the book Arkady's father is properly noted as a WWII veteran.
