Filming start date

A new article from TheWrap (the site has a paywall, so here's the full version archived) states an insider informed them that filming will begin in June 2021, instead of July as previous reports said. El Millo (talk) 16:43, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

The archive is still cutting off much of the article for me, which in and of itself seems interesting/something to add somewhere. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:58, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
Here's the full text. The relevant info for this particularly is The new contract terms only affect Marvel movies that are about to enter production, starting with “Black Panther 2,” which is set to begin filming in June 2021, the insider said. El Millo (talk) 17:06, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
I do feel we can go by this information for the updated start date of this film and that the other deals information should likely be implemented on the Marvel Studios page, the MCU page, or Phase 4 somewhere. Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:38, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
I was thinking maybe the deal info just at the main MCU page in "Business practices"? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:45, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
Added release date info here, and the contract info to the main MCU page. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 18:00, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Ryan Coogler Image

As I was going through the Phase Four article with some technical aspects, it occurred to me that (and based on TriiipleThreat's prior edits) that we should try to find project-specific images. Well, for Ryan Coogler, I've found some images from the D23 2019 event where he promoted Black Panther II and was wondering if anyone would care to weigh in on these potential images that could be used for this article and at the Phase 4 one. This image I feel is the best one made available on Getty Images, and would probably be the best up-to-date image for us to use. I'm not that experienced or well-versed in image uploads and licensing, so if we do go with one of these, I'd much appreciate someone helping out in uploading it. I'm not even sure if Getty Images is where we're supposed to crop images from. Trailblazer101 (talk) 03:42, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

These are good images, but I'm not sure if we can use them due to them not being free. Someone else should be able to confirm. - adamstom97 (talk) 03:57, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
If they're not free then we can't use them, given that there are free images that can serve the same purpose of identification. —El Millo (talk) 04:26, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
I figured that would be such. I've found a free site using this image I suggested. Trailblazer101 (talk) 14:38, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
It doesn't work that way. I doesn't have to be free money-wise, it has to be freely licensed. Here it's clear this image isn't freely licensed. Read Wikipedia:Image use policy#Identifying usable images for more clarity on the matter. —El Millo (talk) 17:26, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
Here you can see that this image has "Some rights reserved", which links to Attribution-NoDerivs 2.0 Generic (CC BY-ND 2.0). Wikipedia:File copyright tags/Free licenses lists all licenses that are considered free, and therefore usable in Wikipedia, where CC BY-ND 2.0 isn't included. —El Millo (talk) 23:31, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
The ones from Getty and Flickr are all taken by Disney, so that rules them out. Any potential we can find ones not directly from Disney that are free? I am aware of the basics of these file licenses, and I didn't mean to say "free site", that was an error. I just struggle in knowing where to look for the actual free licensed files and how to add them. Trailblazer101 (talk) 23:38, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
Just be patient, they’ll be some eventually. We have in-person Comic-Con coming up in December. The press tour hasn’t even started yet.—TriiipleThreat (talk) 04:22, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
@Trailblazer101: Just for reference, Flickr can be a resource to search for images. You would need to make sure your filter is set to "creative commons" licenses, and then based on those results, see what license they actually have to see if it can be used. At least in this instance, Disney TV uploaded similar D23 images, and their license is still not allowable to add to Wikipedia. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 14:42, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Mainspace Move

Kevin Feige confirmed that production officially started on the film, so we should move the article to the mainspace. [1] [2]Hummerrocket (talk) 03:50, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

I believe we typically move these drafts when filming starts, not production. InfiniteNexus (talk) 03:53, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Comicbook.com confirms that the beginning of production is equivalent to the start of shooting. —El Millo (talk) 03:57, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Move, in that case. InfiniteNexus (talk) 04:04, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

Premise?

Has an official synposis for the film released yet? Dcdiehardfan (talk) 05:06, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Not yet. IronManCap (talk) 12:36, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Supposedly Production Weekly has a synopsis featuing Wakanda fighting Atlantis and Namor. Some sites like CBR and Screen Rant are reporting on this. - Richiekim (talk) 21:25, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
These sound more like rumors than anything official. IronManCap (talk) 21:27, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
Production Weekly is, generally, reputable. Though it does beg the question of where exactly they are getting this information from. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:38, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
They are generally reliable for filming details, but the fact that there is no other reliable source that has independently reported on this premise makes me cautious of using it. - adamstom97 (talk) 22:48, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Screen Rant calls it an unofficial logline and said the info came via The DisInsider, so this may be WP:FRUIT. IronManCap (talk) 12:42, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

As of now, Namor nor Atlantis are confirmed for the film. I think we should wait for an official synopsis though. We could maybe say something along the lines of "The sequel to Black Panther, the film will explore the vast and diverse role of Wakanda and Chadwick Boseman's legacy" or something like that. That probably would be against a WP though Dcdiehardfan (talk) 05:01, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Chadwick Boseman picture?

Keeping the topic of an image of Ryan Coogler raised in this discussion forum, I thought it would be a good idea for the article to contain an image of Chadwick Boseman, as the film will essentially explore the legacy of his life and career. Dcdiehardfan (talk) 05:05, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

There are no pictures of Boseman related to this film, such as him promoting it at Comic-Con or something. But one could be included in the sections related to Boseman's death and its impact I guess. IronManCap (talk) 14:17, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

I think that's a great idea. Since the preproduction section details the impact Chadwick Boseman's death had on the film, it would only make sense to provide one. Dcdiehardfan (talk) 05:06, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Country with release date

There is no need to list (United States) after the release date at this time. We only have one release date in the infobox, and it matches the country of release. Until we have information about another date that is notable enough to be included, the parenthetical is excessive. Please do not add without discussing first. BOVINEBOY2008 14:37, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Maybe list in the cast part as a potential inclusion?

According this Hollywood Reporter article here in 2020 Tenoch Huerta was "in talks" to play for at the moment an unnamed antagonist in the film. Should that be in development or at least mention him in the casting? 0Detail-Attention215 (talk) 01:16, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

This is already noted in the development section. We won't add him to the cast section until we get confirmation that he was actually cast and not just in talks. - adamstom97 (talk) 01:30, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Vice and Namor

Per WP:VICE, Vice News is only considered to be a "marginally reliable" source. It seems like the author was merely speculating based on the rampant rumors rather than reporting a scoop. InfiniteNexus (talk) 04:02, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

I’ve removed it entirely. I also found it sketchy that Huerta got bulleted for a role they’re not even confirmed for, especially compared to Jason Schwartzman as The Spot for the Spiderverse sequel. I don’t know if it’s OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, but really, it’s to put into perspective some absurdities in trying to platform rumors CreecregofLife (talk) 06:23, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
This is a case that we should at least reach a consensus for before taking action, so as such, I've readded it until so. I must admit that the source is questionable, and if it is agreed to remove it for now (assuming the reports are eventually proven accurate). To note, the source does have some useful information ie the Mayan language info. I'm not too sure on this, but I don't think a ton of MCU article editors edit the Spider-Verse stuff, so it's nothing I can personally look to. After the source was added by an editor, the information was adjusted to where it is, knowing the source may not be the best. I'd be fine to remove and adjust the information if that is agreed upon. Trailblazer101 (talk) 13:39, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
That’s completely fair. I will leave it be going forward with all that in mind CreecregofLife (talk) 16:14, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
What makes this look unreliable to me is the fact that virtually no reliable sources have commented on it. Generally with this type of stuff, you'll have Screen Rant, ComicBook.com, etc. talking about it within the day at most. —El Millo (talk) 16:44, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
That is also true. CreecregofLife (talk) 16:51, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
The Spot in Across the Spider-Verse was officially confirmed by the studio, so this is nothing like that. I think the Vice article can be used to source the Mayan language stuff, but not Namor. Even Murphy's Multiverse, one of the most unreliable sources out there, still calls Huerta as Namor a rumor despite acknowledging Vice's definite tone. Vice isn't exactly known for entertainment scoops anyway. InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:38, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
Huerta was only listed in the billing per the note that for this article, we are adding any new actors (once a role is revealed) to that list. We don't need to wait for an official billing to add an actor to the billing before release, and in some cases ie Spider-Man: Homecoming and Captain America: The First Avenger, the billing can be altered based on consensus. Either way, we can obviously use the Vice article for the Mayan language info, and we could state the acknowledgment of the rumors that Huerta may play Namor, if we aren't confident in Vice as an editorial news exclusive publication to verify the role being official. That's not to say that we need to wait for an official confirmation from Marvel, but Vice's article, despite its certainness wording, does appear less reliable, per what's stated at WP:VICE. I'm fine removing Huerta as being Namor for now and adjusting the info as such. Trailblazer101 (talk) 01:57, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
Yes, of course we don't need to wait for official confirmation, as long as a reliable source reports this. I support removing (or hiding, like NWH) this info for now. InfiniteNexus (talk) 03:08, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
I've adjusted the info now, hiding Huerta from the billing, and leaving the Namor info as being rumored. Trailblazer101 (talk) 03:16, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
Is this new article from ComicBook.com enough? It shows promo art for Namor. I know this site is not considered reliable but still is it sufficient enough? 0Detail-Attention215 (talk) 19:40, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
No, this promo art (like the one for Attuma), is from unverified accounts which have their names on them and, as such, can't be verified as being officially from Marvel. Also, to note, ComicBook.com is generally accepted as a reputable source for reporting coverage of information and exclusive interviews, but their reports like this use "reportedly" wording and discuss rumors, and in this case, this can't be verified as official. Trailblazer101 (talk) 21:18, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
So it’s just all just fake then is what your saying? Because of the people that posted it they shouldn’t be taken as real? 0Detail-Attention215 (talk) 21:30, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
Given none of Marvel's accounts posted this promo art, and these unverified social accounts are posting it without any definitive sourcing besides the film's logo and a copyright indicator that can't be verified, we can't take this as official. Promo art, like concept art, generally aren't accepted as a means of accurately verifying information on what is in a film, much like toys and other merchandise. We'll have to wait until the characters and actors' roles are confirmed by reliable news outlets or by Marvel themselves before stating anything as fact. As it currently stands, the Namor info should be treated as what they are, rumors, and we should follow WP:CRYSTAL. Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:19, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
The trailer I think a character in it matches the design of the apparent design of one of the promo arts of Namor. That proof enough? 0Detail-Attention215 (talk) 01:28, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
This has now been updated. InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:32, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

"At the dawn of King T'Challa's death, invading forces from around the world target Wakanda's vibranium, unleashing chaos, and it will be the duty of Shuri, M'Baku, Nakia and Okoye to defend the nation, especially when a mysterious Mexican civilization emerges from the depths of the sea". 2601:248:4000:3E60:70E4:EC37:59A7:C9B (talk) 20:39, 1 October 2022 (UTC) [1]
