Holywood?

"In 2001, Fisher played a nun in the Kevin Smith comedy Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The title spoofs The Empire Strikes Back and the film, which includes Mark Hamill, satirizes many Hollywood movies, including the Star Wars series." I do not believe Star Wars was a Hollywood movie so this paragraph needs to be reworded. the "including the Star Wars series." implies it is a hollywood movie. Please correct me if i am wrong. Surrender in the Pink

Surrender the Pink is the funniest book I've ever read. I laughed so hard I was nearly sick!Blaise 22:04, 2005 Jun 17 (UTC)

Is the number of pictures from Star Wars a bit excessive? scazza 03:33, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

Not in my opinion.
Atlant 11:26, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
I only asked since it supports the pigeonholing of her in a certain image, which doesn't seem appropriate for an encyclopedic entry. Also, especially for someone so active behind the scenes in film as well as a novelist, who has a larger life beyond SW. One picture from SW seems enough. But like you, that's my opinion. scazza 03:10, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

Should this be a dab page?

I am surprised this is not a disambig page, since there is a character by the same name that appears on Six Feet Under on HBO. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 03:15, 4 August 2005 (UTC)

I think it's a question of "notability". (Assuming the person on Six Feet Under is actually a different person, then...) If you asked 100 people who "Carrie Fisher" is, I suspect most who knew the name at all would refer to the actress described in this article.
If you wish, write the alternate article and add a disambiguation line to the top of this one.
Atlant 11:51, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
Oops, the character on Six Feet Under is Claire, not Carrie. Sorry. Zscout370 (Sound Off) 15:07, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
You know that the various unions (such as the Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA) explicitly try to prevent this sort of thing from happening, right? Actors and actresses register a name when they join the union and that name must be unique among the union members, so we couldn't easily end up with two "Carrie Fisher"s any more than we could have two "Kirk Douglas"es. I don't know how/if the various unions coordinate with each other, though.
Atlant 15:29, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
There were two "Vanessa Williams" at one point, so one had to become known as Vanessa L Williams. If there ever was another Carrie Fisher, i think she'd be strongly encouraged to change her name in some way. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sparvogamarie (talkcontribs) .
If she wants a SAG card, she'll have-to, unless Carrie let hers expire.166.128.249.31 (talk) 05:16, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

The irony of the two "Vanessa Williams" situation is that the better known Vanessa Williams-the singer/actress/former Miss America-was the one that had to add the initial to her name because the other Vanessa Williams was a member of the guild longer and had been billed as 'Vanessa Williams' longer. Until very recently, the more famous one billed herself as 'Vanessa L. Williams.' I suppose common sense won the day. Ladydayelle 00:22, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Better images?

I can't help but think we can find a better picture for her role as Princess Leia. No white robes, no hair buns?

I concur, though I can't help but say that Carrie did look nice in that golden slave outfit. Mathiemood 01:33, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

I like that image and see nothing wrong with it. But the page could certainly use a few more images. Govvy 11:11, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

At the moment there is one "slave Leia picture on the article. Anyone care to put more "slave Leia" pictures on it ? Theanswertolife42 21:41, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
A single portrait from the first SW would be more appropriate than about anything. 166.128.249.31 (talk) 05:16, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Accuracy in image captioning

I like the second picture in the article very much, the one in the "Carreer - 1970s" section - especially the precise caption:

Carrie Fisher (right) with Steven Spielberg in 1978.

--just to make sure no one has doubts about who's who in the picture. (LOL !!) --AVM (talk) 01:45, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

"Hi"?

Am I the only one who sees the word "hi" all by itself just above the "Personal Life" section? I can't find it in the page source, but I can see it on the page... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.112.192.220 (talkcontribs) .

It was just typical Wikipedia vandalism added by User:211.31.46.156, probably a teenager bored in some study hall somewhere. Someone else reverted the vandalism back out.

Playboy

Did anyone know Fisher was in Playboy? I was pretty sure she did an issue in the early 80s. Govvy 15:44, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

If you mean posed, then as far as I can google, no. She apparently did an interview - for those who buy the magazine for the articles, I suppose. Kurt 08:33, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

She also starred in an episode of Laverne & Shirley called "the Playboy Show" where she guest starred (as a Playboy bunny) along with Hugh Hefner. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.47.228.72 (talk) 04:21, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Is the line about her sleeping with George Lucas intended to be taken literally?

I read the section about her line in Scream 3 where she says "...who gets it but the girl who slept with George Lucas", and the subsequent note that she apparently wrote the line herself, and I wonder if this is implying that this really happened. I know she has been a vocal critic of the casting process - I watched a documentary she was in where she showed how brutal the industry is on young actors and actresses - so I wonder a) is this a pointed barb at Lucas, and b) is the section in the article intended to pose this as a pointed implication, because that is the inference I draw. If this isn't the intended inference, perhaps it could be softened a little (unless it's just me reading too much into the paragraph). Kurt 08:31, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Sounds like a joke reflecting on what other actresses who didn't get the part thought of her. I didn't find much on google except they may have dated in 1982, years after she got the part. Azn Clayjar 14:26, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
What if she did? Is that anyone else's business?? --AVM (talk) 01:50, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
She meant it. In a Vanity Fair interview she clarifies. When asked how she got the part in Star Wars she says "I slept with some nerd. I hope it was George. … I took too many drugs to remember." [1]. Don't get this (talk) 13:46, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Sounds a bit like she may be one of those that makes-up ridiculous lies when asked ridiculous questions.166.128.249.31 (talk) 05:16, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

"An enlightened being"?

I've never submitted one of these before, but thought I'd ask if anyone else thinks the Personal Life section referral to Fisher's daughter as a religious icon "in some countries" and an "enlightened being" might benefit from some editing. 66.28.47.100 12:35, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Sex and the City

I'm pretty sure Carrie Fisher guest-starred in an episode of Sex and The City, which also guest-starred Vince Vaughan. Can anyone recall? If so, is this worth including in the article? Cattona (talk) 22:36, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Blues Brothers on Saturday Night Live

OK, was it the first or the second appearance that she hosted? An IP user with 0 other edits just changed it from first to second with no edit summary.--Doug.(talk contribs) 05:54, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Better picture

Hi, I stumbled onto this page expecting Carrie Fisher. I did a double-take when I saw the picture. Is that really her? I couldn't recognize her. There must be another photo which shows her familiar face... --Kjoonlee 21:36, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

I've searched on and off for months - since I saw her on TCM with Robt Osborne - to find out what happened to change the appearance of her face. Nothing so far. It appears some motor control is slightly impaired. A better picture would be - better.166.128.249.31 (talk) 05:16, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Looking at a Feb 5 2009 video AFI youtube video (George Luca's roast, she's pretty funny BTW) I could not notice anything other than what you might expect changing as someone grows older. She seems to have a natural lisp incident with age, and from looking at other recent videos online (interview about Michael Jackson's passing) it seems very minor. This picture itself could have been an incidental momentary facial expression from looking up. Also, I seriously doubt the camera was white balanced. Wikipedia's copyright nazis demand a public domain pic. Maybe if she shows up at a film festival or book event someone might grab a better shot? Nodekeeper (talk) 10:45, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Jewish?

Why is she listed under American Jews? did she convert to Judaism when she married Paul Simon? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pertuk (talkcontribs) 17:44, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Debbie Reynolds was raised Nazarene, but Eddie Fisher's parents were Russian Jewish immigrants. Fisher self-describes as Jewish, and married Paul Simon in a Jewish ceremony. Absurdist1968 (talk) 00:40, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Where does Fisher self-describe as Jewish? Jayjg (talk) 03:04, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Unclear

The following sentence in the introductory paragraph, "The following year, her mother married shoe store chain owner Harry Karl who secretly spent her life savings." is unclear. Did the shoe store chain owner spend Carrie's life savings? her mother's life savings? 154.5.98.254 (talk) 17:38, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Ringo Starr music video appearance

In 1973, she starred alongside a very shitty-looking Ringo Starr in his solo hit "You're 16." That should probably be in here. 76.125.225.194 (talk) 03:59, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Carrie Fisher

Uh, yeah, what was wrong with my edit to Carrie Fisher? Sbrianhicks (talk) 04:56, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

The article nowhere says she is Jewish, so the categories you added were inappropriate, as they made that claim. Attending Jewish services does not make one Jewish. Jayjg (talk) 04:59, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but it says that her grandparents were Jewish immigrants to the United States, thus meaning that she is ethnically Jewish.Sbrianhicks (talk) 05:05, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
It says that two of her grandparents were Jewish immigrants, but it doesn't say that she was Jewish. It's not up to Wikipedia editors to decide who is or is not Jewish; as with everything else, we rely on reliable sources to make those kinds of explicit determinations. Please review WP:NOR and WP:BLP. Jayjg (talk) 05:09, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Actually, we have, we had a very similar discussion on Talk:Bill Maher. Besides, Wikipedia can't decide she's Jewish, but being Jewish can. It would be saying that Wikipedia needs a reference to call Hitler Austrian, it's just kinda obvious.Sbrianhicks (talk) 15:15, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
"just kinda obvious"? Please review WP:BLP and WP:V. Wikipedia requires inline citations for any kinds of claims such as these. Do you have any reliable sources explicitly stating that she's Jewish? As far as I can tell, she never does so, despite discussing her ancestry in more than one article. Jayjg (talk) 16:37, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Converting the Filmography section to a table

1) Does anyone have a problem with me doing this? and 2) Is there a faster, less manual way to do that sort of thing? Bobnorwal (talk) 05:42, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Thats not how it works here at Wikipedia. No, you figure out how to do it and put all the labor into it, and publish it THEN someone reverts it based on a minor detail and slams a wikipedia guideline or rule in your head. 83.249.180.1 (talk) 13:46, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Timing question

The article says: "In November 1978, Fisher was the guest host for Saturday Night Live with musical guests The Blues Brothers and special guest Don Novello as Father Guido Sarducci. Dressed in a gold bikini, she reprised her Princess Leia character from Star Wars..."

When I read this I thought I must be missing something; wasn't the gold bikini scene in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, which came out in 1983, 5 years after the date quoted for the sketch? -DoctorW 08:06, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

family guy

As far as I know, wikipedia's protocol on long term tv roles is to list them as e.g 2006-1010 instead of adding each different appearance in each episode seperatley.

I looked at the photo on flickr and it says it's Steven Spielberg. Should it be changed? Or does someone know something I don't? Kaleeyed (talk) 00:57, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Non-notable interview on ITV

Yes, Fisher did an interview on ITV. Clearly, we are not listing the thousands of other interviews she has done on other shows over the years. There is nothing particularly noteworthy about this one. If there is, feel free to re-add the interview with cites to independent reliable sources showing that it was particularly noteworthy. - SummerPhD (talk) 00:45, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

A modest proposal

Wow. Considering how little is actually getting done. This shows the result of nearly 40 edits, over a month and a half by roughly 20 editors -- virtually no change, other than the photo (which is changed more often than my sheets. Oh, and most of the edits have no edit summaries or simple "X reverted edits by Y" or "X reverted to last version by X".

Here's an idea: Use edit summaries. When reverting or reverted, discuss the issue on the talk page.

Yes, I know, I know: There's a new movie that is so super-duper exciting that we simply must make sure that whatever .

Personally, I don't care what the article says, what photo we are using, who any of the editors are, etc. Follow guidelines (especially, but not limited to, WP:BRD) and we'll be fine. Ignore edit summaries, revert without explanation and/or refuse to discuss the issue and we won't be fine. - SummerPhD (talk) 14:47, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Nearly Choked to Death, Saved by Dan Aykroyd

She tells a story of when she almost died, and Dan Aykroyd saved her life. I don't know the reason why this huge life event was not in the article, but I added it with a YouTube reference where she tells the story. The entire edit was wiped clean repeatedly by Elizium23, on the grounds that the YouTube video was a CopyVio. The original edit is here, containing the YouTube link. I would like to see the video reference re-added. I hope that someone can find a way to do that while conforming to Wikipedia policies.--Concord hioz (talk) 19:32, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

It seems to me that this falls into the category of "Fair Use" rather than "Copyright Violation" since it is for the purpose of study. RJ4 (talk) 09:55, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

Jewish?

Fisher's father: Eddie Fisher was indeed Jewish, but her mother was not. Fisher wasn't raised in the Jewish faith and she identifies as 'agnostic.' She has attended Orthodox services with friends, but that doesn't make her Jewish either. The presumption of being Jewish rests with your mother being Jewish, not father. Shouldn't she be described as an 'American of Jewish descent' rather than 'Jewish?' (67.239.60.85 (talk) 12:54, 26 July 2015 (UTC))

I can't see anywhere in the article where she is described as Jewish. Elizium23 (talk) 19:21, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Script doctored Star Wars Prequels?

In the "Career" section, under "2000s", the list of movies she script doctored includes the Star Wars prequels. However, there doesn't seem to be a source for it, and I've never read that anywhere else (indeed, I've read that The Phantom Menace was the only Star Wars movie George Lucas wrote entirely by himself. Does script doctoring count?) CamelCase (MyTalk | ConTribs) 05:00, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
