Weightlifting / para powerlifting separation[edit]
Para powerlifting was initially introduced to the CWG as a parasport accompaniment to Olympic weightlifting, but with more para weight categories added in recent Games it has since been marketed as a separate sport and been allocated its own medal tables; in my opinion this shows recognition the sport is, in actuality, an adaption of the bench press in non-Olympic powerlifting. Examples listed below:
In summary, para powerlifting - unlike other parasports in the CWG - is not a true adaption of the "able-bodied" sport it was introduced to accompany.
