Help - re "Genius (2017 film)" article.[edit]

FWIW - Seems the following discussion comments are relevant and worthy - and should be mentioned here on this talk page:

Copied from an earlier talk-page, "Talk:Genius (U.S. TV series)", now a redirected link:

-- Contested deletion [of an earler article-page, "Genius (U.S. TV series)", now a redirected link] --

This page should not be speedily deleted because... This is a well-publicized series that many are curious to read about. --128.112.17.154 (talk) 16:29, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

-- Help - re "Genius (2017 film)" article. --

@GB fan: FWIW - seems I created the "Genius (2017 film)" article very recently - on April 17, 2017 - after searching for a similar article - but, at the time, not finding one - seems there was a similar article after all - at => "Genius (U.S. TV series)" - my own "Genius (2017 film)" article is a much more complete article that is better referenced and more updated than the older "Genius (U.S. TV series)" article (nearly a stub in comparison at the moment?) - how exactly should this be resolved - should there be a merge of content - a sd template applied to one or the other - or some other procedure - I'm flexible with this, just not clear how best to proceed at the moment - an exact suggested procedure would be welcome - in any case - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 17:15, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

@Drbogdan:, If we were to speedy delete one of the articles the one eligible is Genius (2017 film) as WP:A10. That said. we shouldn't speedy delete it because it has more content it is probably best to keep it. The question though is what the title should be, (2017 film) does not look like the best disambiguation as it really isn't a film but a TV series, so (U.S. TV series) is probably a better disambiguator. If we leave it at (2017 film) then the easiest is to redirect (U.S. TV series) to (2017 film). If (U.S. TV series) is the better title then you can copy the text from (2017 film) to (U.S. TV series) and then redirect (2017 film) to (U.S. TV series). ~ GB fan a "frantic, furious ball of anger" 17:39, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
@GB fan: Thank you for your comments - my inclination at the moment is to keep my newly created "Genius (2017 film)" article - based on similarly named TV documentary film articles - like "Cancer (film)", "Making North America (film)", "The Mystery of Matter (film)", "The Roosevelts (film)", "Walt Disney (film)" - or even less titled TV documentary films - like "Dawn of Humanity","Prehistoric Autopsy","Search for the Super Battery" - and redirect the older "Genius (U.S. TV series)" title to the newly created "Genius (2017 film)" article - if ok, I could try to do this - please let me know if this procedure is ok - in any case - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 18:06, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
@Drbogdan:, I have no problem either way. When you leave a message on someone's talk page you don't need to leave the reply template. They get a notification just from the act of leaving the message. The only time it makes sense to leave the reply template is when you are replying to someone on a page that is not their talk page. ~ GB fan a "frantic, furious ball of anger" 18:11, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Done - Thank you *very much* for your help with this - it's *greatly* appreciated - all should now be ok - Thanks again - and - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 18:36, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

hope this helps in some way - in any case - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 18:48, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Miniseries"? Really?[edit]

How can a program be a "miniseries" when it has more than ONE season???

By its very definition, a "miniseries" is just that - - - a program in its planned entirety that is shorter than a regular series.

In today's broadcast world/reality, there are many programs of more than one season that air less than ten episodes per season. Remember "Stephen King's Under the Dome"? When it first aired, it was described as a summer miniseries. About halfway through its initial airing, its descriptor changed to "series," then it was renewed for a second season (and went on to run for three seasons).

To call anything a "miniseries" and renew it before even the first episode has aired, is a blatant misuse of the term -- regardless of what the network/producers/etc. say.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but to me, "miniseries" means a program/series has a known, and planned, limited number of episodes -- like the 1977 version of Roots that established and defined what a "miniseries" is.

To me, to accurately describe "Genius," the "mini" part of the compound word/term must be removed. 2600:8800:784:1E00:C23F:D5FF:FEC5:89B6 (talk) 11:38, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments - seems the word "miniseries" is defined by the online Merriam-Webster dictionary as: a "a television production of a story presented in sequential episodes"") - ALSO - in the Wikipedia "Miniseries" article as: "A miniseries (or mini-series, also known as a serial in the UK) is a television program that tells a story in a predetermined, limited number of episodes." - the "Genius (2017 film)" article is about a television program presented in ten-episodes - about the life of Albert Einstein in this instance - so the term "miniseries" may apply after all afaik - however - a second season,[1] possibly a "Genius (2018 film)" miniseries? - about some other subject - may require some article rewording and/or updating once the new subject is revealed I would think atm - Further Comments Welcome of course - in any case - Thanks again for your comments - and - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 12:23, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - "miniseries" would fit if it was a one-off, but if there's going to be a second season, "television series" would be a clearer description of what Genius is. (I've just moved the article from "Genius (2017 film)" to "Genius (2017 TV series)" because it seems to be in no way a film.) --McGeddon (talk) 13:28, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - agree with the move - and article retitling - may have to adjust/update the article text somewhat at the next opportunity - thanks for your comment and move - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 13:38, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've gone ahead and replaced phrases like "miniseries" and "TV miniseries film" with just "series". --McGeddon (talk) 13:42, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sexual content[edit]

I believe this is the first series on National Geographic to be sexually explicit. Is there any controversy or discussion in this, given that this was previously a family friendly documentary channel? I know there was controversy about History's explicit Vikings series for much the same reason, though my understanding is the version that airs on History is edited. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.145.72.31 (talk) 03:59, 22 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Season two, Gertrude and Leo Stein cast members?[edit]

The actors portraying Gertrude and Leo Stein, and the Stein's names themselves, are missing from the cast list for season two. Does anyone know the actors names? Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:43, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How'd we miss them? Gertrude is Tracee Chimo. IMDB will have Leo; I think their first appearance was episode 5. ----Dr.Margi 14:47, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, will add Chimo (and her page doesn't mention this performance, so will add it there although I don't know how many episodes the character appears in (I'm watching the series for a second time). Leo, will let someone else handle Leo. Would have liked to seen the third season be on Camille Claudel, maybe if it lasts a few more years they're get to her. Thanks again! Orphaned references in Genius (American TV series)[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Genius (American TV series)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "TFC":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 00:16, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
