Conflicting reports on who withdrew from the Judo event.[edit]

Ripcity89, the reason why the "vandalizing" keeps happening is this Philippine source that saying that a Filipino athlete Kodo Nakano was invited to compete in the 81 kg event as replacement of an Iranian athlete who withdrew. The Iranian athlete was not named. However, "Saeid Mollaei" is listed in the 81 kg event at the Judo at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Qualification article hence the assumption of me and some IP editors that he and not Khojasteh who withdrew. However the source you provided, assuming good faith since I can't read Persian conflicts this report... Any thoughts?Hariboneagle927 (talk) 10:29, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hariboneagle927, I'm Iranian myself, all Iranian sources confirm that it was Khojasteh who withdrew and the reason is clear, Iran wanted to avoid potential matchup with the Israeli athlete of the same weight class. The replacement doesn't have to be from the same weight class. Anyways if you want I can provide many different Iranian sources and you can use google translate to confirm.Ripcity89 (talk) 11:42, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see, it doesn't help that a Philippine source insists "In every weight class there is a quota, he (Nakano, the Philippine representive) was just outside that quota. Now that one (Iranian judoka, Khojasteh) backed out, naturally (Nakano) went in,". Any this comes from the Philippine judo federation president. His explanation may be erroneous but since Iranian sources are naming Khojasteh as the athlete who withdrew, let's assume that the explanation was not 100% correct. Hopefully a English language source might be retrieved preferably from the IOC. For the mean time, I need a little help in the Judo at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Qualification article, I used the source you gave but I'm not sure if the translation of the title of the article is correct ("trans-title="), also I can't seem to find any date of the article maybe its not in a Gregorian calendar format.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 15:22, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My edits[edit]

Before my edits:

Wrestling accounted for the largest number of athletes by an individual-based sport with 12 entries; there was only a single competitor each in archery, boxing, flatwater canoeing, rowing, and swimming.

After my edits:

Wrestling had the largest roster of any non-team sport with 12 athletes; there was only a single competitor each in archery, boxing, flatwater canoeing, rowing, and swimming.

Reason:

Ease of reading. I now understand why you didn't like my original edit, because the double usage of team could be confusing.

Before my edits:

Consequently, Nemati's story and sporting success prompted her to lead the Iranian delegation as the flag bearer in the opening ceremony, the third time done by a female in the nation's Summer Olympic history.

After my edits:

Consequently, Nemati's story and sporting success prompted her to lead the Iranian delegation as the flag bearer in the opening ceremony, the third time the Iranian flag was borne by a woman.

Reason:

"the third time done by a female in the nation's Summer Olympic history." reads really awkwardly to a native English speaker. If you want to keep this construction, possibly change to "the third time this was done by a woman in the nation's Summer Olympic history." Red Fiona (talk) 18:09, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Iran debut[edit]

Iran debut wasn't at the 1948 competitions, but at 1900. They didn't come back until 1948. Aminabzz (talk) 01:37, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
