Jack Doulgas' Carry On cameos[edit]

Claims that his cameo appearances in Carry On Matron and Carry On Abroad were "inconspicuous", are ridiculous. In Matron he jerks and twitches across the screen as "Twitching Father", before eventually picking up a phone and delivering his one line (in a maternity hospital): "Could you get me the Guiness Book of Records please!" In Abroad he is likewise jerky and twitchy - this time as Harry, an annoying patron at Sid's pub who spills pints with his violent twitches. In this film he has several lines and appears both in the opening scenes and also at the end of the film. In The Carry On Campanion Robert Ross notes that Douglas' cameo in Matron was a "success", and that in the film's original publicity material he was billed as playing "Jack Douglas". (So, he was specifically mentioned in the publicty.) By the way, the entire point of a cameo appearance is that it is "conspicuous", they are designed to be noticed. It is not a bit part.
