Fair use of alternative cover[edit]

Since the image, File:Je ne sais Australia.jpg, has removed by one editor citing WP:NFC, without saying how this image specifically violates it, I am starting a discussion here so that the image is not deleted simply for being orphaned.

The current consensus for alternative covers in infoboxes, per Template:Infobox album#Template:Extra album cover that can then be tied to Template:Infobox single, are that they pass WP:NFCC if the alternative cover is "significantly different from the original and is widely distributed and/or replaces the original has generally been held to pass this criterion." This alternative cover is significantly different from the original cover and is widely released in Australia, which is the home country of the singer, and therefore passes the criterion. I am leaving off the U.S. cover because while it is significantly different from the original, it did not chart there and therefore was not widely released. • Keep - the alternative cover is completely different and unidentical to the first single cover.--SuperHotWiki (talk) 00:47, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unsurprisingly, for such an obvious title, there are other French songs, one of which already has an article, in the English version. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:39, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Je ne sais pas pourquoi (Kylie Minogue song)Je ne sais pas pourquoi – There is no competing title of the same name. The only other we have is Je ne sais pas pourquoi (Georges Beauchemin song), which is a redirect to I Don't Know Why (I Just Do) – George Ho (talk) 22:29, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:23, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Je ne sais pas pourquoi is now a disambig page. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:23, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - sorry, but given that the Kylie song is in English and that at least two of the French songs (the Trenet and the Mouloudji) appear to be standards with recordings by many artists, there's no advantage to non-Kylie fans of denying the existence of non-Kylie songs. How about I Still Love You (je ne sais pas pourquoi) (Je or je)? --George Ho (talk) 18:07, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Je ne sais pas pourquoi (Kylie Minogue song)Je ne sais pas pourquoi – Per WP:SONGDAB, "further disambiguation is only required when multiple songs or albums of the same name have articles". There is only one semi-notable topic with this title - and it is a small section of the I Don't Know Why (I Just Do) article, which includes a short sentence about the French translation. This can easily be expressed in a hatnote, or a separate disambiguation page. Arguments could also be made relating to WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Thanks, TheKaphox T 14:28, 9 April 2017 (UTC)--Relisting for more discussion as a previous discussion of same proposal had been opposed Yashovardhan (talk) 13:32, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom, clearly the most significant use of the title. Jellyman (talk) 07:31, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - As proposer of the previous RM, I still don't see the need of extra precision/disambiguation. Alternatively, "I Still Love You (Je ne sais pas pourquoi)" can be used, but the original proposal is fine as well. George Ho (talk) 04:51, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support it's the only topic with an article for this title. As noted in the nom, the only possible other uses is very minor in comparison. --В²C 21:11, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as previous RM, Je ne sais pas pourquoi (Charles Trenet song) is a standard in France AND HAS AN ARTICLE HERE ON EN.WP (caps for shouting). In ictu oculi (talk) 09:31, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The redirect to the American standard song is the least searched of all three I can provide. Even when both articles are equally popular (though the Minogue one is more viewed), I think general audience knows the Minogue song more than the French rendition of the American standard. --George Ho (talk) 23:38, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@In ictu oculi: Since the last RM, new precedent has been introduced. As outlined at WP:SONGDAB: "further disambiguation is only required when multiple songs or albums of the same name have articles". The only article (that isn't a redirect) is I Don't Know Why (I Just Do) - which doesn't have the same name. You can't really say that the Trenet song has an article, when it is merely a redirect. TheKaphox T 18:41, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support I guess. I'm assuming that the versions by Georges Beauchemin and Charles Trenet are not huge international hits or something. And the Kylie Minogue version was a single and appears on her Greatest Hits album, it's not just an obscure album track. So yeah it'd be OK to move "Je ne sais pas pourquoi" to "Je ne sais pas pourquoi (disambigution)" and hatnote it on top of this article. Herostratus (talk) 02:22, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
