@Berig: I've been thinking - we currently have it that the second element is "svid" meaning location - but might it be vid = wood? The genitive of hildr is hildar and in compounds you can see the form hildi-, so I believe the present etymology is correct. Svið is a place name element, and I know a few places with that element in Sweden, such as Rågsved.--Berig(talk) 19:07, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
