Contesting PROD[edit]

I'm contesting the PROD because I managed to find just enough about the film to show that it would just barely pass WP:NFILM. There are still some notability concerns, but if anyone still wants to delete it then this should probably take place in AfD where it can be further discussed.Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:07, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This Prod has received two 2013 Canadian Screen Awards, received mainstream international media coverage, and has been broadcast or distributed internationally. What is the problem with notability? Please elaborate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.93.110.3 (talk) 06:39, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removing external links[edit]

Hi! My attention was brought back to this page via the poster, but I noticed that the external links section is far, far too extensive for Wikipedia's general guidelines for pages. I've removed the social media links like Facebook and such, as they're already in the official website and the basic rule of thumb is that these links should only be listed if they're not in the official website and even then, only if they had an exceptionally large impact on the page topic (in this case a documentary film).

I also notice that some of these are also sources in the article. If something is already used as a source it shouldn't be put in the EL section. However even if it isn't that doesn't mean that it should be in the EL section. This section isn't meant to be a catch all for any and all links and to be honest, overlinking in the EL section can actually come across as spam regardless of the original intent of the person who added the material. Since this page has been edited by someone directly involved with the film at some point (meaning someone who has a conflict of interest) that means that this page would be under extra scrutiny, which means that it could get tagged as spam or whatnot. It's actually mildly surprising that this hasn't been detected and the EL section whittled down yet.

My basic point in saying this is that if I remove the links then they really shouldn't be re-added. I'm going to remove redundant links and if something can be used as a source, I'll move it to the article. So far some of the links are also coming up as dead links, another thing to take into consideration with external websites since not every site will host material forever - especially if with newspapers, as there is money to be made by archiving past news stories and charging fees to access. • I also just removed a link that only very briefly mentioned the film. Links of this type should not be in the EL section, as offhand WP:TRIVIAL mentions aren't really what's expected of an external link. The average EL should be something that goes into a lot of depth about the film, isn't a random site (ie, no fan sites or something that would be seen as dodgy), and wouldn't be better served as a source in the article. • I just removed the Tribute link. That's a routine database listing but the thing is that this purpose is already served, and served far better, by the IMDb link, so it's considered redundant. I also removed the Documentary Organization of Canada link since that was dead. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:58, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm removing the IMP website links since IMDb already has these on their page, plus the links could be argued as redundant to the link in the awards section. On a side note, I'm surprised that the official website doesn't have their posters up. Since I know it's likely that the production company will read this, I'd like to recommend that you add the film posters to your website since I didn't immediately see them. The reason for this is that it's kind of expected that you'd have your posters somewhere on your website under a page for press kit material. Relying on other websites to host the material isn't always a good idea since you never know when they'll go down or remove the material.
To restate the purpose of the EL section, the goal here is to only have the barest minimum of links. It's not meant to serve the same purpose as a media section in an official website and in general it's expected that the average article will only have about 3-4 links. There are some exceptions for very, very high profile people (US Presidents), organizations (Yale University), or films (think Oscar winners), but in general anything more than that can be seen as spammy and excessive. • I moved the mention of the UoA alumni award to the article. While not really something to add into the table per se, it could warrant a mention since the page basically states that he's being recognized for the film. It'd be primary, as all alumni awards are considered primary because he attended the university, but there's no harm in listing it. Since we only needed one link to establish this, I deleted the other link that just announced the awards. I also removed the Newz4U link. That didn't come up with anything and it also wasn't something that Wikipedia would likely see as a RS, which makes it questionable for the EL section in general. It's not meant to be a catch all for everything that isn't usable in the article, for example. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:23, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm leaving the Radio New Zealand link in the EL section. Now this is a good example of what should be in the section, since it looks to be a lengthy radio spot. There are already so many sources in the article (actually almost too many, so be careful of WP:OVERCITE) that there's no need for it in the article. However take into account that this shouldn't be a catch all for all of the news spots, as we only need one or two in the article in general. I don't think that any more ELs are needed at this point and in general, the production company should be keeping track of these on their website.
