that is not noteworthy. first or second, maybe, but not sixth.

but what about the more OBVIOUS question: is she the first AFRICAN woman? first african of EITHER sex? first african to win ANY of the top 4, for that matter?

so what? she's listed as a kenyan national; how many kenyan nationals have ever won (US) academy awards?!

tbhotch up there says she is not even the first african to win the specific "best supporting actress" award. so who was before her? i don't even know where to look this stuff up.

hey now - the article has been updated to reflect the fact that she IS the first african (and kenyan specifically, and mexican) to win the award! while i am glad to see this, what's the deal with tbhotch stating pointblank that she wasn't?!

While she is the first African actress to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, she is not the first African person to win an Academy Award to either category you said: "the first AFRICAN woman [...] first african of EITHER sex [...] first african to win ANY of the top 4" [sic]. my first question was not about "an" academy award! i criticized the entry about her being the 6th black to with THIS academy award, and asked whether she was, perhaps, the first african to win THIS award. i expanded that to ask about other awards in the 2 follow-on questions.

your "she is neither" sounds like it was meant for all 3; it would have been a lot clearer had you said "yes, INDEED, she is the first african to win this; however, she is not the first in the additional 2 categories mentioned". 209.172.25.14 (talk) 02:31, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

suburban?[edit]

i think her idea of "suburban" may be different from everyone else's. she is the daughter of a govt minister, her mother owns her own company, her relatives are "prominent", and she went to both prep school and US college. in a country like kenya, that is clearly upper class, if not flat-out rich. perhaps "sic" belongs in her quote about being suburban? 209.172.25.165 (talk) 06:29, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I actually think the image looks terrible. The grey background and low-quality makes it look like a mugshot. There are far better photographs of her that are of better quality and that don't come from a magazine. It should be changed. Drown Soda (talk) 23:54, 11 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
