The subject of this article is a YouTube blogger, some of the sources are also on social media and are perfectly acceptable for what they are sourcing. Youtube can be an acceptable source, especially if the person who controls the channel is posting the videos themselves. Likewise all the other sources are used in that manner and support the facts being stated. Is there any one in particular you doubt? Let me know and I'll try to explain it, as maybe we need to make it more clear what these sources are or what lams they are sourcing. Sportfan5000 (talk) 07:51, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

My first problem is when I tag and article and take issue with a YouTube as a RS, I do not expect you to tell me "They are RS" and revert. That is not how it works. I have given you specifics links to Wikipedia criteria esp on a BLP, yet I have not seen you provide sufficient refutation. I am engaging the talk page to establish Reliability and quality of this persons Bio. I am following procedure. Why not just verify on the RS noticeboard that they can be used or show me in the wiki policy that YouTube is RS in this instance. So disruptive is failing to sort out a dispute on the talk page but deleting tags. You started this all off with a false statement that sourcing to YouTube is not allowed. That's simply not true. And there is no BLP issues here as we are not making any negative claims against this person. What BLP offense do you see that I'm missing? Can you show me a person who has a Grade a page that is using YouTube? What part of the issue am I missing. YouTube is not an RS! That is the start and end of it. Actually you dispute the YouTube can be a reliable source but even Wikipedia pages on the subject say that it can be. The main concerns seem to be if the video is altered or a copyright infringement. Neither of this scenarios are present here. Sportfan5000 (talk) 10:28, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Notable people do not need YouTube as a RS

The problem with self-published videos as RS then it begs the question How come you cannot find something outside of YouTube to verify these things? Now fortunately I am actually a Fan of Brownlee. But in the interest of quality ref to a living person bio need a higher threshold of inclusion. As this is the Wikipedia policy not my opinion. You are talking in circles, Can you please refer me to Wikipedia Policy where it says YouTube is allowed on a BLP? It is as simple as that. Disputed sources

1. Interview with Marques Brownlee!. As the title suggests this is an interview with Brownlee conducted by Martin Shervington, and posted to Shervington channel. This 30-minute interview unsurprisingly covers a lot of ground, and is used as a general source as they do confirm many basic points that article raises, and they also noted about Browlee that Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice President of Google Social, calls him the "best technology reviewer on the planet right now." This source, among others was removed and a "citation needed" flag was added in its place.

The source also confirms the statements; He currently is a marketing student at Stevens Institute of Technology. He is majoring in business and technology, while minoring in Information systems, and marketing. And Other than producing content and school, he plays golf, and is a former professional ultimate frisbee player with the New Jersey Hammerheads. And His first several hundred videos were primarily hardware tutorials, and freeware. And He was later approached by companies to demonstrate their paid software and hardware, but only reviews products that would be of interest to his audience of technology enthusiasts.

2. The statement "The channel is said to be one of the fastest growing channels and one of the most subscribed-to in the technology industry." was also removed, this too can be attributed to the first source and I will accept it was an error not to have it with a source. The same user who deleted several sources then added a "citation needed" flag, didn't flag this statement but just removed it.

3. Management team – Company – Google. Is the website of Google management confirming that Vic Gundotra is indeed who we say he is, the Senior Vice President of Google Social. This was the second of three sources removed and replaced with one "citation needed" flag.

4. Vic Gundotra - Google+ - New MKBHD Video is live! I spend a lot of time in thought…. Is Vic Gundotra's own post confirming that what we said he said is accurate and verifiable. This was the third of three sources removed and replaced with one "citation needed" flag.

5. Pocketnow VIP, episode 3: meet Marques Brownlee from MKBHD! | Pocketnow. This is another online interview with Browlee that confirms a lot of basic, non-exceptional information in the article. It was removed as a source for the statement: He is majoring in business and technology, while minoring in Information systems, and marketing.

6. G Flex Self Healing Demo. This is one of Browlee's hundreds of videos, and the only one that is presently mentioned in the article, about someone who is notable for making YouTube videos. It is a demo of a particular product and is used to source " As of Dec 2013, the video has over 3,032,947 views." This source was also removed and replaced by a "citation needed" flag.

All in all these are not questionable sources and I think they fairly support the claims they are referencing. I think it would be nice to have more sources but this is also a new article, a short article, and until these sources were removed, most of the exceptional statements were easily verifiable. I think it can all be restored and I don't see any BLP violations as has been suggested but maybe someone can make it more clear what they are. Sportfan5000 (talk) 08:40, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

I think WP:YOUTUBE, and Wikipedia:Video links covers it just fine. It's understandable to be cautious against using online videos as they can be a copyright violation, if the poster doesn't have the rights to post the video, and are often not appropriate for external links, which is not how they are being used here. We have three online videos all being posted by the people who control the channels. I think we are well within acceptable use here. Sportfan5000 (talk) 09:02, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

By having substantial YouTube videos you are undermining Notability. I think that is what we got from the Quest contributions. I would suggest a min usage of YouTube and you have to go and find 3rd party and other independent sources. It is not what You and I believe, as stated I am a fan. But to make this page quality we cannot have YouTube as the main ref to his notability. We need independent sources. And not blogs or forums. See remarks--Inayity (talk) 09:18, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

I think you really need to step back a bit. YouTube is not the newspaper or reporter serving up this information. It is simply the main houser of video producers, an industry standard. Your blanket refusal that anything in video form is unreliable, or at least not reliable on a BLP is simply false. Sometimes, and i think expressly in this case, those videos can be used. And wether the main sources are print, video, or books does not matter at all. That's a systematic bias favoring books as better than magazines, better than newspapers, etc. Instead we should look at each source to see if it is reliable for the claims made. At the interviews with Brownlee are used minimally and with care. This is a new, and very short article. These sources are fine for what they support. No, because if these events are so notable that they deserve a wikipedia page then you should have no trouble finding non-YouTube video ref for the bulk of the article. Actually you don't control what content and sources are allowed or not. But to steep things in your take, we use exactly one Self-published Video from Brownlee and it only reports how many times that video shows it's been played. All the other video sources are independent of Brownlee and are talking about him or interviewing him. I did find other sources and might add some of those as well. Oh yes I do, because I am an editor on Wikipedia and I did not just join 1 year ago. So you need to get agreement here for edits there on the article. If you cannot find independent sources then the notability of the subject should not be included, at the risk of this page being deleted. No, anyone can edit any article and even after filling up this page and making me spend an enormous time answering your claims on a noticeboard there is no good reason not to restore everything as it was. You even just now deleted a reliable source that the article needs for an exceptional claim. If you insist on the more references needed then that's your issue. I would suggest putting energy into making this article better by providing quality references that work (as opposed to dead links) sourcing solid external sources and formatting them properly. Good, now let us improve it more. Because I cannot be accused of making it worse by asking we do some more work to find non-YouTube 3rd party sources. After all when we add better ref is it hurting him? It means no one can pass and make the remarks I just made. I am actually trying to help him by making his page solid. I think you might have missed an important point in all this sometimes YouTube and video sources are perfectly acceptable, as blogs can sometimes be. It depends on who controls the content of them. There is no quote for how many video sources we use here and all we should focus on is getting the best sources possible. And by extension you are implying that I am doing original research to make claims which are untrue. Can you point to anything in the article that is untrue? That Brownlee stated about himself that someone else disputes, or you do? Have you watched, listened to the interviews? It's fairly obvious it isn't investigative journalism but then we have no reason to believe Brownlee deserves hardball treatment. Primary sources can still be reliable sources. WP:USINGPRIMARY If Brownlee is asked a question and he answers it about himself, I expect him to be the best authority on himself. What was his motivation, when did he start, what sports he likes, etc. Accusing him of doing interviews with just his friends is completely dismissive unless you have evidence that this is true. And the same would hold true if he was in a print article or book. He could be friends with the author but what do we know? He could actually be a nice person who no one despises publicly. If he is talking about himself then it is not independent! If someone who does not know him, is writing about his work as in the link i gave you then that is 3rd party. Surely important people are discussed outside of their opinion of themselves. As for what we know? We know he has no independent RS. How Many Fans do you need on YouTube to get a Wikipedia page?

I begged that we bring this article up to speed. My actions were not seen by all as helpful. Someone is now issuing warnings on my talk page to leave this page alone. What I wanted to avoid was the tag that this page should be deleted. The way I was trying to avoid this page EVER being deleted was to get rid of the self-published YouTube (be serious now) references and get some solid content up there. As oppose to do that MORE YouTube ref were added prompting a question of Notability. The issue is clear, and I will frame it in a question. And there are no copyright concerns at all, it's an interview withe brow lee who is interviewed about his work. Middle name Some speculation has existed for what the "K" in MKBHD stands for. Many names have been suggested including, more recently by the Youtuber Tquo, Kumar. However, Brownlee has since denied that his middle name is Kumar. Brownlee's mother has registered for Twitter saying his middle name was Kramblebamble. Which was obviously a joke, if you google Marques Brownlee's name it will show you a short description, such as when and where he was born, filiation and education. If we search for Marques dad's name (Marlon K. Brownlee), we can see Kumar as his middle name, which was also his father's name (Milton Kumar Brownlee), so we conclude that Marques inherited his father's middle name, which inherited from his father. So K is confirmed as Kumar.

Swap brand identity/logo for portrait photo

It may be more beneficial for article readers to see Marques Brownlee's portrait instead of his brand identity/logo.

I agree a photo of him would be nicer, but according to WP:NFC#UUI, non-free photos of living persons are not acceptable as a replacement for a freely-licensed photo which could be acquired. I'd suggest you to contact him and ask him to release a photo under a free license. This guide may be useful to do that, and these examples may prove helpful as well. His tweet said that the initials and middle names were the same, not necessarily the first name. It is very possible that the 'M' for his father and grandfather are not 'Marques', which can be seen by this tweet, which shows a 'Marlon Keith Brownlee'. I agree that the photo is absolutely horrendous, but there are literally no other copyright-free images of him. I get that the point of having a photo isn't to look good, and you're generally supposed to use an image if one is available, but it my eyes it's so bad that it detracts from the quality of the article.
