Episode List[edit]

Ideally, the episode list should be converted to use the {{episode list}} template. At the minimum, the original air date needs to be known. You can view other program show lists to see how it's used. Andyross (talk) 21:32, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actual Mega Disasters[edit]

How about something about actual mega disasters? Of course it wouldn't go here, since this article is about a TV show, but so far this is all we have. Even though I've just seen bits and pieces of the TV show, my impression is that most of the episodes are based on articles previously published in Scientific American. Furthermore, these article were not just written on the spur of the moment, but were typically based on well-researched books or articles published in peer-reviewed journals.

Just to put this in perspective, disasters can be grouped roughly into the following categories:

1. small enough that you can deal with it yourself, e.g., car getting a flat tire

2. big enough that you should have insurance, e.g., house burning down

3. so big that insurance usually doesn't cover it, e.g., tornado - in the USA insurance companies refer to such disasters as "acts of God"

4. "civilization-shattering disasters," e.g. full-scale nuclear war

5. extinction event, e.g. the asteroid that hit the earth about 65 million years ago.

The TV show seems to focus on disasters in the 4th category. What makes such disasters so interesting is that, according to recent scientific discoveries, they are more common than previously thought. Furthermore, this seems to be a valid topic in itself, maybe a subset of risk management. Zyxwv99 (talk) 23:20, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
