POV

I have made some major revisions to the article to remove POV slanted content, and lots of speculative original research. The article still needs some serious citations for a lot of claims that seem to have no general basis. Pacian 20:41, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Feels So Good.jpg

Image:Feels So Good.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:36, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Mel's lover

Please stop putting it on the page 'bout Mel having a female lover. Mel said nothing in the interview expect for the "I will always love Eddie" thing, but that was probably taken from the interview she had with OK! magazine. But what is being put up there is not her interview nor has she said any of that. It's just gossip so please stop putting it on there. Thanks ListenTaWhutISay

I removed it again and someone removed my posts on here. Now please stop putting it on there. We don't need rumours and gossip. BabysOnlyG

Can some please removed the thing about Mel having a female lover? It's not an interview given by her. It's only gossip and rumours so it has no place on this page. Holler2004

The report is sourced and no one has put forward any real suggestion that it is false. Mel is not the only source for her information on her life. "Gossip" is means whatever someone doesn't want talked about (I discuss, you speculate, he gossips). Mel herself said people can call her lesbian, bisexual, or heterosexual. She doesn't seem to get too overheated about the subject. JenAW 18:54, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Nevertheless, one or two flings does not make her bisexual. I'm removing the LGBT musicians cat again until and unless she self-identifies as lesbian or bisexual. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 14:32, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Someone keeps putting it up there. Wether it's true, or not it shouldn't be up there unless Mel states it herself. If that's going to be put up there might as well put up everything the papers print about her. holler2004

I took it down. Hopefully they won't put it back up. Like you said, if their going to keep putting that up they might as well put up everything the papers write about her. SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 14:32, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Picture

Honestly, that picture is terrible. It would be better if there were no picture at all.

I think the picture is good. It should stay up there so there is at least one on the page. (Scary4Eva 03:54, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Scary4Eva)

Musical career

Maybe it's a wikipedia thing, but for a regular reader, starting the career section with "At the height of the Spice Girls' success" looks a bit weird. Surely she did something before she reached that point?

Actually it is the truth. Melanie Started out musically in the Spice Girls (before that she was in dancing school) and when they were at the height of their fame she first ventured solo with "Word up" and "I want you back". By the time her solo album came out (2000) the girls fame was waning and in question. So thats technically the truth of it. user:The Ginger one

Her 2005's album L.A. State of Mind had a regualr relase just in the Uk and it hasn't chrted in small countries like Croatia. The only single 'TODAY' had a UK release only too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.208.83.249 (talk) 09:39, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

External links

sorry, but the majority of the external links on this site are not official or endorsed by Melanie Brown in any way. her Official Website is located at http://www.melaniebrown.com

the other sites listed and linked are either fan sites or squatters trying to ransom her various domain names. if possible, it would be great if a moderator could remove the false external links and replace with the official link.

LGBT category

The information about her "lover" keeps getting re-inserted, even though there have only been tabloid reports of this relationship, none that pass Wikipedia's guidelines for reliable sources. Moved to Mel B. bd2412 T 19:46, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Melanie Brown → ? – After Melanie Chisholm was moved to Melanie C, I had a think about this too. All of Melanie Brown's early material identifies her as "Melanie B", whilst in all her recent TV appearances (and on the artwork of "For Once in My Life") she's referred to as "Mel B". Or is the current title better? Unreal7 (talk) 20:55, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

  • Move to Mel B, undeniably the common name. WikiRedactor (talk) 21:45, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Comment, I think she was/is well-known as "Melanie B" for a longer time than Melanie Brown and Mel B. So if we should rename the name of her article, it should be Melanie B.--SuperHotWiki (talk) 00:24, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Move to Mel B - many articles use this name. Current title is used occasionally, but more used than other names, like Melanie C. --George Ho (talk) 05:36, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
  • Move to Mel B - Mel B is most frequently used and most recognisable. --Rushton2010 (talk) 22:10, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Scary Spice

I was under the impression that the Spice Girls' nicknames wer a marketing tool and not assigned by the media. at any rate theres no source for that information, shouldn't there be? 134.83.1.233 12:07, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

According to their biographies (Melanie B, Victoria, and Geri have all written at least one biography) the Top of the Pops mag gave them the nicknames and they just kinda 'stuck'. They eventually started playing into it always saying "Oh Posh you dont have your black dress on!" "Oh Baby where's your pigtails?" user: The Ginger one

Yes, they were given them by Top of the Pops magazine. Although Geri's was Sexy Spice, and that somehow changed to Ginger Spice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.22.43.114 (talk) 12:17, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

It says that one of the reasons she is called Scary Spice is because she is the only black member of the group? What on earth? That should be removed. I can't imagine that there's any truth in that. M Walter Parenteau (talk) 17:32, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Shes not black anyways, shes half Native-Briton [white] and half african. 107.222.205.242 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 01:14, 25 December 2013 (UTC)

'Black British singers' category

Why is Melanie included in that category (she is half white)? I distinctly recall hearing her say that she was called racist names by both black, and white people, when she was younger. People are often fond of lumping people of black/white descent into the 'black' category? It is disrespectful to that person, and that person's white side of the family... 70.238.220.101 (talk) 20:03, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

Mel B & Stephen Belafonte's marriage/divorce

Please don't change the status of their marriage to divorced until the divorce is finalised. This violates BLP policy (please refer to the banner at the top of the talk page on this).

Mel B has just filed for divorce but there are no reliable sources saying they are legally divorced yet. In fact, (if I'm not mistaken) California law means their divorce won't even be finalised for at least 6 months and during this time they can back out and thus remain legally married. Point is, they are not legally divorced yet. If and when it is finalised, we can change the status. Bennv3771 (talk) 05:24, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

Assault allegations

Hello, I recently added an addition to Melanie Browns Wikipedia page due to it not being present. October 17th 2018 credible articles began posting stories related to Mel assaulting a male model , Dujuan Thomas , at a fashion show at The Sheraton Grand Downtown Los Angeles. A user removed this addition due to my original source being TMZ. But the story has hundreds of credible sources including News, radio, television ect. It was a very viral story. There was an actual police investigation and charges are pending in this case. (Redacted)). So I was told to post this discussion here so more like minded indivuals could research and add this to her Wikipedia page. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] NEWS PAPER [6] [7]

First, your title of this section itself is a BLP violation. We are NOT in any circumstance or anywhere going to say in Wikipedia's voice that ANY person, famous or not, assaulted anyone unless or until that person is convicted of assault in a court of law. Hence, I've changed your section header. John from Idegon (talk) 03:38, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
References 1, 2, 3, and 5 fail WP:RS on face. Reference 8 is reporting on what 1 said, so equally unreliable. Your statement in parentheses is in itself a BLP violation and I'll be redacting it and requesting its oversight, as it is an unattributed and clearly unattributable, by your own words, negative statement about a living person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by John from Idegon (talkcontribs) 03:51, July 4, 2019 (UTC)

Abbycarroll (talk) 04:19, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
@Abbycarroll: No, 4 is not a good source, either. By community consensus, The Sun is one of the few sources that have absolutely been deemed unreliable and not suitable as a source. See WP:DEPSOURCES for the deprecation rationale, and WP:BLPCRIME for guidance on accusations and allegations. Orvilletalk 05:05, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
Hi Abbycarroll. There are no private pages on Wikipedia, and anyone who can access Wikipedia can see this page and even edit it.
