Demolished

Just curious if the demolished ones fell down, washed away, or someone paid to have them scrapped. Dwight666 16:59, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Agreed - The fact that they were destroyed *after* being added to the National Register of Historic Places screams for explanation. There has to be some justification as to why they were destroyed, you don't just up and scrap a Historic Place for no reason. -- 22:43, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

They were old, the documentation for the article doesn't provide a reason. Registered Historic Places are not protected by federal law, they are simply listed. A property owner can do whatever they want with a historic place provided they are not violating any local laws. Also, please sign you posts.A mcmurray 23:13, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Article title

Thematic Resouces is the old title for Multiple Property Submission, several MPS' were submitted under the title Thematic Resouces.A mcmurray 23:12, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

But is the article supposed to be about the bridges, or about their submission to the register ? The bridges, surely ? So the article does need that redundant "Thematic Resources", does it ? I am tempted to move to Metal Highway Bridges of Fulton County or Metal highway bridges of Fulton County. -- Beardo 23:57, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

To me it's a way to denote just what they are in the title. If not thematic resources, then Multiple Property Submission or MPS maybe. I don't know, it separates them from some random metal highway bridges in Fulton County.A mcmurray 00:38, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

To elaborate, if it were just Metal Highway Bridges of Fulton County that implies that it is all metal highway bridges in Fulton County, which it is not. It is just these specific bridges.A mcmurray 00:39, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Elrod

Why is Elrod the only one without its own article ?

I note this - http://www.nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com/il/Fulton/state.html - says Elrod was added in 1995, not 1980 like the rest. Is the article wrong ? -- Beardo 23:58, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

More info: Check this, Nomination Form for the Metal Highway Bridges MPS. Elrod was included on the nomination. The bridge was never listed however. Both the NRIS and HAARGIS Databases confirm this. The site you referenced above is often wrong, I only use it as a source for things like reference numbers and years added to the register when the other database is down, or at least I used to, it's not a problem anymore. Anyway hopefully that clarifies and if you added the fact that the Elrod was listed or could be to any of the articles besides Bernadotte Bridge could you please revert that. So nine were nominated, but only eight listed. I wonder why Elrod was excluded ? That should be made clear both here and in the individual articles. I'll check my changes shortly. -- Beardo 01:57, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

I checked a couple of them and tried to clear some things up, I created a lot of the bridge articles before the main article and learned more later. I have no idea why Elrod was excluded, I added a sentence that said it was here and in a couple of the other articles where it was mentioned. I'll check them all over. I do know that a nomination to the National Register can be turned down by a property owner for any reason or no reason whatsoever, they can just say no, it is possible that some of these bridges were located on private land, as the nomination form notes they are all on dirt roads. When I get down to Fulton County I intend to consult some local historians and/or historical societies for information. I will probably take a photo-taking road trip there in the spring, when it's warmer.A mcmurray 02:04, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

More: Unless, we have a situation where Elrod Bridge was destroyed so long ago that none of the databases list it, there is absolutely no way it was added in 95 though as it is listed on the 1980 nomination. More research is required I am afraid. Hold off on checking your changes.A mcmurray 02:11, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Alright I found this: "ILLINOIS, FULTON COUNTY, Elrod Bridge, Spans Spoon River SE of Smithfield, Smithfield vicinity, 80001362, REMOVED, 12/08/95 (Metal Highway Bridges of Fulton County TR)," this implies that it was listed which all of the intros actually say nine registerd bridges so I don't know why I got confused. Elrod was removed in 1995, the above is from the NRHP site, it's basically an update of weekly register activity. So I was mistaken in my comment before. Elrod was part of the Register, it was removed from the Register in March 1996, accrding to the above, and torn down a bit before that. Sorry about the mistake. I think most of them reflected this state of being but we should check everything over and make sure it's cleaned up and accurate. I think this solves at least part of the dilema.
