Poorly sourced negative material[edit]

I have made this removal. The source provided is in inadequate and does not stand up to scrutiny. It is an opinion piece and furthermore the quotations ascribed to it are provided as anonymous quotations in the source itself. CIreland (talk) 14:19, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is a review of a television programme, it's no different than saying "Critics said the new Star Wars movies were a "disappointment" and "failed to live up to the hype produced in the months leading up to their release". At least, in my opinion, I can't see the difference. It's an editorial published in a legitimate journal. Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 14:56, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but since we don't know who made the original remark that Greenslade is quoting, we have no way to assess the reliability or the context. CIreland (talk) 17:10, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ping Pong[edit]

"After graduation he aspired to be a professional ping pong player, however his time on the international tour was short lived due to a reoccurring injury in his little finger of his left hand. It was then that he pursued his other passion in life, interpretive dance. As hard as he tried to overcome his previous injury to his pinky, drive and passion were simply not enough, the injury once again sidelined him from his life's passion. It was only after this that Michael Cooke took his first steps in the newspaper industry."

I have removed this section, which was unsourced, as likely vandalism. If it is true, I encourage the anonymous IP user to provide a source, and it may be reinstated. Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 04:56, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Education[edit]

There is a published source that states Cook graduated from University of Auckland in 1969. (Source: Monitor Leadership Directories, Inc (2007). News Media Yellow Book, Volume 18, Issue 2, p. 80.) He disputed this in 2011. "Said Cooke in his memo: 'I think we all know this, and I am particularly aware because of my own Wiki entry . . . up until a month ago it had me graduating from a university in New Zealand. I have never stepped foot in that country. Other errors remain.'" (Source) Jokestress (talk) 04:02, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alleged "print war" against Rob Ford[edit]

Hi all - thought I would note that I removed the edits added by IP 99.230.234.193, who added "Since his arrival at the Star, he has orchestrated an on going print war against Toronto Mayor Rob Ford." to the bottom of the article.

While the Toronto Star certainly reports critically about Ford, I don't think that "orchestrated an on going print war against ... Ford" is verifiable, citable, or even NPOV. Willing to stand corrected on this, of course. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.180.220.51 (talk) 21:09, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
