Untitled[edit]

I'm in severe disagreement for how we've decided to classify the "uncommon" synonyms. I don't believe they are uncommon in any sense of the word, as people use these variations commonly in everyday life. Words such as clash pertaining to fighting or "sharp" pertaining to quick-thought (intelligence) are so heavily integrated in our common-speech that if someone were to substitute these words for the more "common" words which have been outlined, no notice or thought would be needed to understand what is implied. I am taking out the claim that connects using synonyms with sophistication. The now current intro to the section on their language claims that the use of synonyms shows that they are a more sophisticated society. I have no reason to think that was the writer's intention, and if so it would be an ineffective way to show sophistication. To the contrary, the language use seems to me to show the following: 1. The Vori culture is slightly different than Chakotay is used to. 2. As Chakotay becomes indoctrinated, he uses more and more of their language. 3. It is also a standard use of "Battlestar Gallictica speak" in which common words are substituted for less common or made up words to show that the world is not quite ours. Insightful[edit]

The most insightful episode of all Star Treks, my all time favorite. It really shocked me when I first saw it... usually, Star Trek is superficial, pseudo-moralistic, light entertainment but this one was something else... very relevant to current events and human nature --Autismal (talk) 19:03, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
