Meaning of "campanilismo"[edit]

The Italian word "campanilismo" is derived from "campanile" ("bell tower", one of which is present in every small town) and means "exaggerated attachment to the customs and traditions of one’s own town" (from http://www.oxfordparavia.it/lemmaIta4739 ), so it cannot be used to refer to a sense of identity which concerns an entire region (Campania). Anyway, according to google books even in the referenced source there isn't the word "campanilismo". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Analytikone (talkcontribs) 12:46, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
