Supposed preference for the Davis translation[edit]
I've struck the "cathedrals prefer" claim because it's unsupported and unlikely. ECUSA cathedrals, when they aren't singing out of Carols for Choirs, are (I would imagine) going to use the Hymnal 1982 version, which as best I recall is the Neale translation, as the Hymnal 1940 used before it. Presumably C of E cathedrals are going to prefer the Davis, assuming that the English Hymnal's successors stuck with that. Unfortunately the Hymnary website doesn't make a distinction between the two translations. If someone can come upon a tabulation as to which hymnals use which translation, perhaps we can source some claim about this. Mangoe (talk) 17:16, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
