Leading Israeli Philosopher[edit]

Carol, would you object to removing the "leading Israeli philosopher" quote? It gives the false impression that there's a consensus in the academic community that he should be viewed in this light. As I mention in Ben-Dor's Article for Deletion page, the only one who seems to regard Ben-Dor in this exalted manner is the columnist you quoted. Moreover, Google has no other references to Ben-Dor as an Israeli philosopher of any consequence, let alone the leading one.Scaleshombre (talk) 18:27, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The usual alternative, which I should have employed originally but working fast, is to say WHO says he is and then people can judge for themselves. Neutrality Concern[edit]

Carol, I appreciate your willingness to revise the "leading philosopher" quote by identifying the source inline. (It might be more precise to cite it as "Tom McGurk, a columnist for...") Nonetheless, the quote still gives undue weight to Ben-Dor. Rather than delete it and start an edit war, I added a neutrality flag.

Naturally, the problem will become moot if consensus emerges to delete the article. But in the interim, it's even more crucial to keep it balanced. Given that there are no reliable sources either backing or contradicting McGurk's claim, I'm not sure how to add balance without slipping into POV. (Can we say "The reasons for McGurk's effusive praise are unclear"?)

Bottom line is that McGurk seems to be engaging in sheer puffery, and his quote damages the article's neutrality. Scaleshombre (talk) 19:23, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
