Untitled[edit]

Do we want to tie each of these to a neighborhood? We have articles for most of these neighborhoods. -- Jmabel | Talk 02:01, September 9, 2005 (UTC)

Not only Seattle[edit]

While the term p-patch originated in Seattle, it has spread beyond Seattle. Not sure how many communities around here have one, but Everett, about 20 miles north of Seattle, has a community p-patch [1]. A quick search via Google also turned up a reference to a Bremerton (on the Olympic Peninsula) p-patch [2]. Might it be more accurate to say the Puget Sound area or even just Seattle Metro area? --H-ko (Talk) 06:24, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A Little Self Righteous[edit]

The term pea patch is definitely not unique to and did not originate in Seattle. To say that is has spread from there is a bit self righteous it seems. The abbreviated hyphenated p-patch probably is local to Seattle. Take a look around the web and you will see the term pea patch used copiously to describe a community garden. The pea patch term originated from Pea Patch Island in the 1700s, clearly pre-dating Seattle and it's use of the term.

Here are several cities in the Seattle area using the original term pea patch as well as a couple of other references.

City of Duvall, WA Pea Patch

Tukwila, WA Pea Patch

Kent, WA Pea Patch

Littleton, CO Community Garden

Pea_Patch_Island doesn't mention anything about a community garden, but about some ship dumping pea seeds there. Is there an origin for the use of the term in a community garden? Either P- or pea- form? Do people commonly plant peas in a P-patch? Gah4 (talk) 12:53, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Remove P-Patch List[edit]

The List of P-Patches is quite long, should we maybe remove the list and point those seeking a list to the Official P-Patch list maintained by the city? Subzidion (talk) 08:46, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
