Colours[edit]

This season, PUFC have worn White shorts 14 times at home, compared to 8 times in BLue shorts. Should the home kit colours change because of this? I think so. User:Tim_teddybear

Why the Nickname?[edit]

Maybe some explanation in the article for why they are called "The Posh" ? why's that then?

Anyone remember the Port Out Starboard Home pub?

This taken from "http://www.theposh.premiumtv.co.uk/page/WhyPosh/0,,10427,00.html":-

Peterborough United are known throughout the world of football as 'The Posh' and the nickname was almost certainly inherited from earlier, unconnected professional clubs in their home city.

Although the present club did not come into being until 1934, the 'Posh' name first came to the fore a decade earlier, almost certainly stemming from Pat Tirrel, player manager of Fletton United, a previous user of the present club's London Road ground, who announced in close season of 1921 that he was looking for 'Posh players for a Posh team' to compete in the Northamptonshire League (later the United Counties League).

Fletton, previously known as the 'Brickies,' re-formed as Peterborough and Fletton United in 1923 and both nicknames were in use through the 1920s, although supporters complained that 'Posh' references were sometimes used by newspapers in a derisory manner.

Peterborough and Fletton United folded in 1932, the present club was formed two years later and a Midland League debut against Gainsborough Trinity on 1st September 1934 was greeted with cries of 'Up The Posh' from the crowd.

A note on British English[edit]

British English should be used for articles on Britain related topics. Likewise, American English should be used on articles pertaining to American topics. For a clearer example, please visit this sub-section on the differences between their usage. However, is" works better than "are" with the term club as it is a singular and not a plural noun. (Compare with the word team which is a plural noun) --Siva1979Talk to me 18:42, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Rachubka[edit]

Can people please stop giving him the American flag - he played for the England youth teams and has not played for America. The Wilky Bar Kid 09:57, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Who's the funny guy[edit]

I'd like to know who was the funny guy who wrote: "Early History= They are rubbish A successful start to league football was dealt a blow when the club was rel"

I've taken that out, but this should get revised

Dates wrong for managers careers?[edit]

Some dates for when teh managers were in charge seem to be incorrect as they overlap. Eg around 1964 goes back to 1962.

History section[edit]

Erm, did absolutely nothing happen for the first 71 years of the club's existence........? ChrisTheDude (talk) 14:41, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism 2008-12-09[edit]

Seems to have been a lot of vandalism this evening - a whole series of edits. I've reverted things to their last stable edit, but might have missed some useful editing in the process. Apologies if that's the case -- Blue Square Thing (talk) 23:20, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Honours[edit]

Should we remove the FA Cup and League Cup best results to the bottom of this section or add a sub-section. Quarter finals and semi finals are not honours in the true sense, for me, it cheapens Posh's actual achievements. Anyone? RoyalBlueStuey (talk) 07:54, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Squad table format[edit]

A discussion is being held here on the possibility of rolling out a new squad template. The new template, named {{football squad player2}}, differs from the standard squad layout in several ways:

  • It features a sort function
  • Comes in a single column format that can be understood by screen readers.
    • Single column format ensures that low resolution browsers, including mobile devices, do not get part or all of the second column cut off.
    • Single column format ensures less clutter, particularly at lower resolutions, for wide sections such as the Arsenal loan section.
  • It gives nationality its own column; at present flags are featured in a blank, untitled column
  • It complies with Wikipedia's guidance on flag usage.
  • It leaves enough space to add images of current players, an example of which can be seen at Watford F.C#Current squad.

It is proposed that the new template be added to some of Wikipedia's most high-profile club articles, which might include Peterborough United F.C.. To give your thoughts, please read and contribute to the discussion at WikiProject Football.

Someone has removed the flags from the squadlist. Has this been agreed? They were there on this revision but not on this one by ohconfucius. RoyalBlueStuey (talk) 08:04, 30 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
