Don't think this merits its own aricle. A mention in the East Anglian derby article would suffice. --Jameboy 18:33, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, which is why I prodded it. My reasons include:

  1. How is "Anglia" defined, and by whom? Do Southend and Peterborough really count as being part of Anglia? They certainly are not part of East Anglia.
Well, our own Wikipedia article states that boundaries are vague, but at the least contain Peterborough, Ipswich, Colchester and Norwich. It also states that some people include Essex within the region and, as such, that would incorporate Southend. Or perhaps we need to work on the East Anglia article... The Rambling Man 11:41, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Only one of the references given actually uses the term "Pride of Anglia" - and it was written before Colchester finished the 2006-07 season.
The reference states that the award was made only when it was confirmed that Colchester finished top in East Anglia. I don't see a problem with that. The Rambling Man 12:37, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Many claims go uncited and have been flagged as such.
  4. Use of weasel words e.g. "Fans variously claim"
  5. The "Pride of Anglia" link at the bottom is Ipswich-dedicated and probably does not count as a remotely NPOV link per WP:EL.

If regular use & an agreed definition were cited, or there were a regularly awarded trophy or some official recognition by the clubs involved I'd be inclined to keep it. But as it stands it's an ill-defined honorific title as equally meaningless as "Pride of London" or "Pride of the Midlands", and as such the article as it stands comes close to original research. Qwghlm 22:40, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Right - having done a Google search (excluding Wikipedia) it appears nearly ever reference is to either Ipswich Town or Norwich City so I think the best thing to do would be to merge it in with East Anglian derby. Qwghlm 23:02, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article includes a sourced reference to Colchester United being the current holders of the title - and an actual trophy, meaning that such a merge is inappropriate. --Dweller 11:10, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Trophy...[edit]

Hmm, OK, so the lead tells us that a local TV station (I'm assuming ITV Anglia here?) awards a trophy. Do they? I barely pay attention to this sort of stuff anymore, but can't ever recall hearing any mention of it. Anyone got any idea at all? I can find a blog post from 2011 but, tbh, I get the impression that info might have come from here. Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:24, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure about that trophy at all. It may have happened once. Probably worth removing it from the lead. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:30, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Think it was given the one year Colchester finished above Ipswich and Norwich. Not heard anything of it since and struggling to find evidence of it. I'll update the league positions graph at some stage as well btw... - Cheers, JCJ of Burwell (Talk) 10:29, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ta guys - that was my gut feeling as well. Think it can go - if anyone finds anything about it (Dweller might know something?) then we can always put it back in. Blue Square Thing (talk) 19:16, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think it was almost certainly linked to the fact that lower-league Col U finished ahead of ex-Premier League Ips/Nodge on one occasion as Burwellian notes above...... The Rambling Man (talk) 19:21, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Take it out of the Lead, but keep it in the body text. --Dweller (talk) 19:56, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I found the source that was once in the article, with the help of some digging with the Wayback machine. I think it might have been a one-off. What do you think? ([1]) If so, I think it's probably not encyclopedic. --Dweller (talk) 20:02, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Source is OK for a minor thing like this I reckon - given that this article is hardly headed for FA status anytime soon! I've added; feel free to tweak. Great looking trophy btw - must have cost Anglia a packet... Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:27, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, that's a twenty-quid job from JJB.... The Rambling Man (talk) 20:29, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Is it my imagination, or is she having a Judy Finnegan moment in that cheesy photo? It looks like she forgot to put a top on that morning. --Dweller (talk) 20:39, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

League Chart[edit]

Okay, given this isn't just Ipswich and Norwich, do we want a graph showing more of the relevant clubs? If so, which ones? The non-annotated one right shows Ipswich and Norwich as current, but also each team from the ITV Anglia region (given they arranged the trophy) who's finished above both of them at least once since the First World War. Somewhat easier for Southend who did so before Ipswich went professional and joined the league, but Colchester and Luton have both managed it since WW2... - Cheers, JCJ of Burwell (Talk) 20:28, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

History of League positions of several clubs from the ITV Anglia region. Namely:- Ipswich Town (light blue)- Norwich City (yellow with green borders)- Colchester United (white with blue borders)- Southend United (dark blue)- Luton Town (dark Navy with Orange border)
Of course I don't like this graph, it doesn't show the Tractor Boys at the top for the past four decades. However, I don't really like the combined graph (sorry) because it's too cluttered. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:30, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ipswich & Norwich only
Does get cluttered quickly with extra teams. Happy with current one, or worth looking at a half way house? - Cheers, JCJ of Burwell (Talk) 20:32, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure what a half-way house is. This, in my mind, has always been Budgies v Tractors, the whole Col U, Hatters thing is not something I would normally consider. Do Col U/Hatters fans consider playing Ipswich or Norwich a "derby"? I know Col U hate Ipswich (so to speak) but have no feeling for Luton or whether Norwich even notice Luton/Col U.... The Rambling Man (talk) 20:36, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Would tend to agree - the 5 team one is very difficult to use to be frank and essentially it's pretty much a Norwich - Ipswich thing. Tbh I'm not even sure that we should pay too much notice of the Anglia TV thing - especially given that the trophy appeared to be a one off thing. I assume that Cambrdge and Peterborough would want including as well wouldn't they? Certainly under a geographical defnition of East Anglia they would be. I can live with the simple two team graph but I'm not sure adding more teams is a great idea. Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:17, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did look at Peterborough and Cambridge when putting that together, neither has ever finished abopve both teams. Peterborough came close a few years ago though... And by half way house, I'm meaning a middle ground of sorts; is it worth putting a combo of maybe 3 teams together to see if that's clearer at all? - Cheers, JCJ of Burwell (Talk) 10:13, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Additional: Also, the yellow looks a lot clearer on my laptop than my desktop, is Norwich easy to see for you guys or shall I change it back to green? - Cheers, JCJ of Burwell (Talk) 10:14, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

out of date?[edit]

Are the stats still accurate "Over the 142 matches played between Norwich and Ipswich since 1902, Ipswich boasts the better record, having won 42% of the matches to Norwich's 39%.[4]" it appear the link is dead — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.104.228.18 (talk) 16:34, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Almost certainly not up to date. I imagine at least today's game needs adding to the table on the East Anglian Derby page and then the numbers can be calculated - or we take this information off of this page and just have it on the derby page which is really where it belongs.
