Eye-witness account[edit]

My father, Robert John Charles Reynolds, was stationed in Algiers at the time. He told me that two volunteers from HMS Arrow donned asbestos suits and attached a line to the anchor cable for towing out of the harbour. He also said that the ship burned for "several weeks" rather than the days mentioned here. He says: "It was a great sight at night. It lit up the sky". Dad is 88 so it's possible this isn't quite right. Are there any other eye-witness accounts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.31.56.53 (talk) 15:57, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
