Alt text[edit]

Is it really appropriate to have the alt text in the infobox be "Man in his 40s with curly hair and glasses"? The alt text, after all, what shows up as a caption in the media viewer: Sean_Nelson#/media/File:Sean_Nelson_-_Pop_Conference_2015_-_02_(17207867001).jpg. As the photographer, this seems to me to be worse than useless: surely something we are using as a caption should indicate who this is, etc. - Jmabel | Talk 05:13, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Jmabel: Please feel free to remove or replace the text in the 'alt' parameter. I agree that it is particularly 'useless' and inconvenient that 'alt' captions replace the entire original captions in media viewers. At the time of editing, I was unaware that it would replace the original caption and my intentions were only to follow the WP:ALT guidelines. Apologies and thanks for pinging me.
