Soda → Soda (disambiguation) – I'm asserting that soft drink is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC here. I doubt that I'll get any argument from U.S. users since even in regions where "pop" is the more popular term (I live in such a place) "soda" still always refers to a soft drink unless used in the context of specific phrases like "scotch and soda" or "baking soda". However, I think there might be some popular usages outside the U.S., which is why I wanted to start a discussion instead of just moving boldly. 02:58, 4 August 2017 (UTC) -- Fyrael (talk)

Oppose - There are indeed more popular usages elsewhere in the world. I would certainly not think of a soft drink when given the word "soda". I might think of a soda lake or of baking soda. I believe that the current disambig page is a good representation of world-wide usage of the word and it is, after all, only one more click to get to the article of interest, whatever that may be. Link to 'soft drink' in first line?[edit]

Since most North America English readers call a 'soft drink' just 'soda' (or pop, or sodapop), I'd think lots of people come to this page expecting 'Soda' as they know it. I just did. Then to actually find the 'soda' page, which seems to be named 'soft drink' (which if I've heard spoken in a real life situation I can't recall it), then to dig deep into the page and section that it's in (I've moved it to first item in the section from the last item, will see if that's okay) and finally found out where to find 'Soda'. That's my only reason for asking if the link can at least be first-lined, seems like a lot of extra searching a common term in a large part of the English reading world. The common name chemical meanings come right after the first line, so all the very common terms would be handled quickly. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:34, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I think having a common meanings area as supported by MOS:DABCOMMON would be good here. Here's the relevant page views for consideration. I don't know enough about how widely used just "soda" is for the chemicals to decide what should be included, as we don't use it that way in the US. -- Fyrael (talk) 15:34, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
