Backlash section and weasel words[edit]

I added the weasel template to this article because it appears that the user Imperialism addition of the "Backlash" section on 20:59 December 28, 2005 was just nothing but weasel words.

It is full of "Some will say..." and "They feel..."

Who are "They?" Who are the "Some who say?"

Unless I'm way out of line, I feel that the "Backlash" section should be deleted unless sources, or quotes, can be cited from television or sports experts.

As this is my first major contribution, I'm erroring on the side of caution and just adding the template. Ciderbarrel 00:05, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That Backlash section is a joke. I'm so tired of unsourced "Controversy" sections that collect every criticism made on a talk-radio call-in show and act as though they're notable. In my opinion, even finding a couple of editorials stating these opinions wouldn't help. Someone would have to prove that a substantial number of viewers feel strongly enough about this that it's affected the show's ratings. The only example I can think of (and frankly I'm embarrassed I thought of it) is when Keri Russell's haircut was blamed for the ratings decline of her show, Felicity.
It's always good to err on the side of caution when you're starting out, but I think in this case your instincts were right. Keep up the good fight, Ciderbarrell. --djrobgordon 19:19, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anchors[edit]

Can we do a table for the anchors section, in the years they anchored sportscenter.

Syndicated show[edit]

Since when has it been?

Foreign Editions[edit]

According to the print version of USATODAY on April 7, 2006, ESPN has 10 other local editions of SportCenter around the world. Should this be mentioned; and also, are they present in other language's wikipedia? Penwhale | Blast the Penwhale 14:10, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ESPN Pacific Rim (Australia/New Zealand) airs the American version of SportCenter Live most days with exception of live sport, mainly soccer, they air ESPN 6pm ET show live and also airs there 2am ET live for half the year when daylight savings is in affect in australia and on a 2 hours delay for the other half.

There is also gossip going around that ESPN in Australia will start up there own version of the show

Official name[edit]

The official name of SportsCenter is, well.. "SportsCenter". ESPN's web site doesn't say anything about "Sportscenter presented by Subaru", and there are no Google hits for that phrase. I think someone is just confused by the sponsor announcements during the show. Rhobite 22:19, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Format[edit]

I added a section on SportsCenter format. Its long overdue to be completed. I just started with the beginning and end of the broadcasts. I'd be glad to do the whole section, but I'd rather have someone else do it or at least take over somewhat. Just add/edit as you see fit.

Where's the Logo?[edit]

The SportsCenter logo used to be in the infobox. However, I checked back in today and noticed that it had disappeared. If anyone has the copy of the logo on their hard drives, please upload it again.--Desmond Hobson 17:48, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ESPN web site[edit]

I plan to add a link to the official website of ESPN so that it is no longer an article with an unsourced statement. However, I would like to ask you to find a more specific home page within ESPN for a better source.--Desmond Hobson 16:59, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Studios[edit]

I was thinking that it would be a good idea to add a section about all of the different studios that SportsCenter has been in over the years. I know about four of them, but I don't have pictures or know the exact years they were used.--Choptalk4165 17:14, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The tag remains[edit]

It looks like the "unsourced" tag has been added back to the page despite all the changes we have made (removal of some sections, addition to homepage link, etc.) I would like to know the specific reasons for this, and I would like to ask the original author for sources. After all, someone is taking the lack of sources very seriously.--Desmond Hobson 17:58, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sportscenter International?[edit]

Why is there no entry on sportscenter international? It was an award winning show and perhaps the best sports news show I ever watched. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.231.232.119 (talkcontribs).

Yeah, and the version at ESPN Star Sports. This article should be moved to [[SportsCenter (U.S. TV program).--Howard the Duck 18:52, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

11th International version of SportsCenter
to air in Australia and New Zealand
January 16 marks the launch in Australia and New Zealand of ESPN’s marquee sports news and information program, SportsCenter, making it the 11th international version of ESPN’s flagship news show. The program will have up to two live editions airing daily, Tuesday through Saturday, starting at 7:00am local time. Innovative and entertaining, SportsCenter covers major sporting events and stories of special interest to sports fans in Australia and New Zealand, as well as a broad range of international sports that appeal to local viewers.
As with ESPN’s original studio show launched in 1979, this newest version of SportsCenter promises in-depth reporting and analysis, vast coverage, and a creative and sophisticated production style that is the mark of SportsCenter wherever it is seen around the globe.

Highlight controversy[edit]

There isn't a single citation in the long section of highlight controversy. The whole thing reads like it was written by a team of upset sports pundits. Is there any chance of getting sources cited to make it seem more reasonable? White 720 04:55, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, Mr. White, I wrote it based on my personal observations of the highlights I have seen on the show. I have sourced at least two of the passages in question and am seeking help on the others. I am also asking for permission to restore the parts of the article in which I wrote that ESPN has used the same tactic on Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Sports Net. I am surprised that they were removed. As for the prima facie violation passage, yes I was blunt about it, I can understand its removal, and I apologize for its earlier inclusion. - Desmond Hobson 15:49, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This article is about SportsCenter; your beefs appear to be with ESPN's editorial control as network policy. The section in my opinion is too strongly biased and is still poorly sourced. "Criticism" and "controversy" shouldn't be Wikipedianese for "I hate X because…." They should instead be "Reliable outside sources have identified that X is bad because…." White 720 20:58, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FSN Final Score[edit]

Is it time for an article for Comparison of FSN Final Score and SportsCenter? It seems like every feature that SportsCenter has introduced is clearly a ripoff of FSN Final Score. One user, [[User::Desmond Hobson]], seems bent on creating a Mac-vs-PC-style contest to prove that ESPN isn't being innovative. This constant comparison adds nothing but noise to the SportsCenter article. White 720 17:54, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advertisers[edit]

I removed two bits about SportsCenter running with a single advertiser. Many shows have been run with a single advertiser. It's not necessary to point out every incidence. If SportsCenter takes a page out of TV's past and renames itself entirely after an advertiser, that would merit inclusion. White 720 (talk) 17:42, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

35,000 episodes celebrated in 2009 according to intro, but the info box has a lower number (31, 731)[edit]

With so many episodes, the info box will inevitably be wrong on a daily basis without constant upkeep, but the number given in the info box is way lower than the number suggested by the intro. Is the discrepancy from poor upkeep or did the show not actually celebrate 35,000 eps in 2009? 68.173.1.147 (talk) 10:08, 9 March 2011 (UTC)New to this[reply]

  • I've removed the list of episodes simply because it is not encyclopedic due to the programs function and ever-changing numbers. This is not like regular TV shows that have defined episodes/seasons and media. Sportscenter is on up to 12 times a day as a news program and it did celebrate its 35000th episode in 2009. SportsCenter Theme Composer[edit]

This page cites the following information re: the SportsCenter theme composer: "The current theme music was composed by Annie Roboff, who also co-wrote Faith Hill's 1998 hit "This Kiss".[7]" The actual composer of the SportsCenter theme is John Colby. Robert Sarver & Deshawn Watson[edit]

I know there is more to these stories then what we the average Joe Jones sees or reads, but it seems to me the professional leagues are sending two different messages.

Robert Sarver Owner of Phoenix Suns, receives One year suspension & $10m fine for inequitable conduct toward female employees, which included demeaning, yelling, & cursing

Adam Silver NBA Commissioner, rightfully remarks; regardless of Robert Sarver’s position, power or intent, we all need to recognize the corrosive and hurtful impact of racially insensitive and demeaning language and behavior.

Dashawn Watson NFL QB: 24 counts of sexual misconduct in law suits was suspended for 11 games and fined $5m.

I’m sure the 24 women who filed sexual law suits against Watson have been hurtfully impacted with insensitive demeanor and behavior. So why only 11 games & $5m. Shouldn’t they receive the same respect? One year suspension with a $10m fine and let Watson try to get back in the league next year? 2601:681:8400:8D10:918B:8756:E472:D5DD (talk) 19:49, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
