Former name[edit]

Just a reminder to everybody that the rules for writing about transgender people do not apply to all people in the same way — specifically, people who were already notable under their former name before coming out as transgender do not have their former names suppressed from the article, the way a transgender person who became notable only under their current name can. For one thing, the article already existed under the old name before Thomason came out — meaning that even if the old name were suppressed from the body text, a reader could still find it out just by checking the article history. If Sweet Baby had been Thomason's first album, such that T. had been the only first name they were ever publicly known by, then the name "Molly" could be suppressed from the article — but just like Laura Jane Grace and Caitlyn Jenner, whose former names are also not memory-holed from their articles, Thomason was already notable under the name "Molly" before coming out as transgender. So suppressing the name "Molly" from the article is not an option here — the applicable rule in this instance is that we have to acknowledge the former name, while merely exercising caution not to overuse it. ((Origin vs Based}} Thomason is referred to as 'Based in Toronto'. I feel like 'Is from Halifax' is more accurate. Honestly, if we start referring to every Canadian act who head for Toronto as being from Toronto, then the entire country may as well exist in a single city. That just doesn't feel healthy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.192.108.149 (talk) 04:36, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Location[edit]

Thomason is clearly a Nova Scotia artist. Trying to claim them as being from Ontario in any way feels like erasure. The article needs to be amended. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.192.108.149 (talkcontribs)

As far as I can see the article doesn't say he is from Ontario, just that he's based there. — Czello 11:39, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
