Question claim related to "largest private landowner in US"

Someone may need to properly qualify this claim. The NYT article ignores the fact that Plum Creek claims, "Plum Creek is the largest private timberland owner in the nation with approximately 6.8 million acres.." PCL Investors. How does one reconcile these conflicting claims? Ted and John have NEVER individually had anywhere nearly that much land. Lupinelawyer (talk) 22:42, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

  • Two things. First, I would argue that we don't need to change it, because Plum Creek is not "private": it is a publicly traded company (ticker PCL on the NYSE). Second, if you disagree with my first point, then the change is to call Ted Turner the "largest human landowner", or the "individual who owns the most land" in the USA, since Plum Creek is, again, a corporation, not a human individual. --M@rēino 19:49, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Third opinion

Just to note that I have given a third opinion regarding this article here. Formerip (talk) 00:24, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Ted Turner's Statement

I am accusing Ted Turner of making a misandric statement by advocating the banning of men from public office. I am not accusing him of having misandric tendencies because I don't know the man well enough, I am simply stating that his statement was misandric. If somebody said that black people, which I am one, should not be permitted to run for public office, I would accuse this person of racism. There is no such defense that this person is "condemning the actions" of blacks and not the color. A polite and tolerant person does not accuse "blacks" of committing certain actions. The same rules apply to a gender, male or female. It is nothing more than common sense. Maumau1000 (talk) 01:20, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

The question is if was he for real? He already made several nonsensical statements of which he latter apologized or retracted.85.243.69.170 (talk) 19:48, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

On 10/25/2012, Ted Turner said during an interview with Piers Morgan that he thinks it's good when U.S. soldiers commit suicide. http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2012/10/25/Ted-Turner-I-Think-Its-Good-US-Troops-Are-Commiting-Suicide — Preceding unsigned comment added by 20.132.68.148 (talk) 20:16, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Edit request on 27 October 2012 controversy section...add recent quote that is very appropriate

On CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, October24, 2012, Ted Turner said he thinks it’s “good” that American soldiers are committing suicide in large numbers because it shows an aversion to war. The truth wil set you free (talk) 22:53, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

This request doesn't suggest specific wording, so it is hard to act on (edit requests need to say "change X to Y"). But, this article is not protected now, so you can make your proposed change yourself. RudolfRed (talk) 00:42, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
It needs citing to a proper source though - one that actually indicates that it is noteworthy, rather than just a soundbite selected to make Turner look bad and it needs putting into context. AndyTheGrump (talk) 01:14, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

*Importance: High. Not only one greatest accumulators and dispensers of wealth of all-time, but did so in a way that affected lots of other people.
  • Assessment: B-class
    • If I can make big changes to the article without looking anything up, then it can't possibly be GA-class.
    • Yet it's not start class, because:
    • it has an impressive bibiography of sources,
    • it covers all the major events in his life
    • it explains the impact of many of them
    • it covers many minor events that are useful to complete the story or explain the subject's motiviation
    • the style's not perfect, but it avoids the worst errors described in WP:NPOV and WP:LIVING, and does some good things as well
  • Needed:
    • Family
    • Fill in the rest of the chronology
    • Pin-citations instead of general citations

WCW request

Ted Turner is well known among wrestling fans for his overall ownership of WCW, as well as his personal feud with McMahon as a part of that. In the section that talks about Turner's business ventures, I would like to see if someone could create a paragraph about World Championship Wrestling.

Atheist

According to this website, Ted Turner is an outspoken atheist and critical of religion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.168.81.68 (talk) 05:30, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

I very much doubt that hollowverse.com would be considered a reliable source. It seems to be run by a single individual, with no evidence of editorial oversight. [1] You should also probably read the 'Controversial comments' section of our article, which cites a source which apparently contradicts this. AndyTheGrump (talk) 05:44, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

Ted Turner cancelled Swat Katz ???

If it is true that Ted Turner is responsible for the cancellation of Swat Katz then this is grave news and needs to be explored further in this article as the most significant and awful thing he ever did. I have no idea who he is and I don't care, except insofar as he may be responsible for the cancellation of SWAT Katz, the 3rd- or 4th-greatest cartoon ever made. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.208.132.241 (talk) 07:02, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Praise for North Korea and Its Dictator, Its People Contented

In contrast to his views on Israel, Ted Turner finds North Korea and Kim Jong-il worthy of praise (Ted Turner Dismissed Threat of Brutal Kim Jong Il: 'Didn't Look' Evil by the MRC's Scott Whitlock, who displays the video excerpt from Wolf Blitzer's September 2005 interview on CNN), which should be added to the Controversies section.

"I am absolutely convinced that the North Koreans are absolutely sincere. … You know, just because somebody's done something wrong in the past doesn't mean they can't do right in the future or the present. That happens all the, all the time. … in the pictures that I've seen of him [Kim Jong-il] on CNN, he didn't look too much different than most other people. … I saw a lot of people over there. They were thin and they were riding bicycles instead of driving in cars, but … I didn't see any brutality…" Asteriks (talk) 08:20, 17 October 2019 (UTC)

Proposed merge of Turner Doomsday Video into Ted Turner

Not notable in itself; already part of Ted Turner. Probably not appropriate in CNN. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 04:54, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

  • might be more appropriate to merge into the hymn article. SYSS Mouse (talk) 13:54, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

AEW TNT Championship

Would the fact that All Elite Wrestling (AEW) put images of Turner's mansion on their new AEW TNT Championship be considered an honor for him?

They specifically said it WAS Turner's mansion on the title belt, and it was because he is the founder/namesake of the TNT Network (Turner Network Television)

Wouldn't that fall in the same category as the Braves naming their stadium after him or the Hawks putting up a banner for him?

Vjmlhds (talk) 23:22, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

I don't see as an honor or award. First, it's not an honor for HIM. AEW decided to use the front of his mansion for a belt design. Other Award are given to HIM (walk of fame, lifetime awards). Here, a pro wrestling promotion is using his house for a title belt. There is not an award for his work or career and it's not on the same level of the rest of the awards. Anycase, it would be a note if Ted Turner Mansion has an article. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 23:58, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
[2] BTW, this is the belt. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 00:07, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
An homage for sure, but they didn't make this out to be some big dedication for Turner himself. It's mainly there because it's the TNT Championship, not the Ted Turner Championship. It's not Turner himself being featured, just his mansion as it's where TNT was founded (someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that, but that's my understanding). --JDC808 01:39, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
It's not even his mansion. It's the facade of the former country club that became the main building of Turner Broadcasting's Techwood Drive studios. It has nothing to do with Ted Turner personally and doesn't belong on this page in the least. oknazevad (talk) 15:39, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
