  • Forerunner of Comedy shows:

THe Phil Silvers Show could be looked upon as a forerunner of comedy shows with a theme of a bunch of rebellious/and or con men servicemen getting the best out of everyone else and/or rebelling against authority:

Fair use rationale for Image:Bilko title.jpg[edit]

Image:Bilko title.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:14, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Episode list[edit]

Would it be possible for someone to create an episode list for this programme or is that a bit of a tall order being as there are over 143 of the damn things? If not could someone please simply expand as the information on the entire show is quite thin on the ground... Matt Zero (talk) 12:43, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I included one of the most famous episodes, "The Case of Harry Speakup", where Bilko and Hall accidentally induct a chimpanzee into the US Army. Aside from other references to the episode, I found the full transcript of the episode's dialog on the website www.philsilversshow.com/BestShow.html but I didn't include it in the article because www.philsilvershow.com, which apparently also includes other episodes, is on a Wikipedia blacklist. The dialog given for that episode appears to be reliable (according to my memory from having watched the episode when it was originally broadcast) but the site may have been blacklisted for suspected copyright infringement or some other reason. I'm unsure of the procedures and policies for blacklisting or for requesting an exception to a blacklist, and suggest that someone who does understand these things look into it. Even if we can't link to it, the website may be a source of reliable information allowing Wikipedia editors to write an episode list with plot summaries of a few of the other famous episodesCharlesHBennett (talk) 03:31, 31 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bing Crosby.[edit]

There was one episode where Bilko was pulling a scam involving a Bing Crosby lookalike when the real Bing Crosby appeared. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.93.199.154 (talk) 09:50, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ratings[edit]

The article says ratings weren't a factor in its leaving the air in 1959. I'd like to see some proof of that, since it had been out of the Top 30 for two years by that point.

Production Moved?[edit]

The article says production of the show moved to Hollywood during its last season. I was unaware of this, and would like to see some corroboration.

Happy days[edit]

I seem to remember a very old looking Phil Silvers appearing in an episode of happy days, basically playing Bilko. Can anyone corroborate —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.42.121.120 (talk) 11:32, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Motor Pool[edit]

It seems odd that - given the fact it is mentioned in many, many episodes - at no point does the article mention that Bilko is in charge of the Motor Pool. Is there a reason for this? Jock123 (talk) 20:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We see the motor pool so infrequently in the shows that it’s kind of irrelevant. His platoon don’t even get grease on their fatigues. And there’s an episode where Bilko volunteers for an extra duty only because it includes an official jeep for his personal use. Bilko couldn’t wangle a free jeep from his own motor pool? Say what? 2001:44B8:3102:BB00:B46D:A792:3797:413D (talk) 08:01, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Production[edit]

Didn't Phil Silvers' Gladasya also produced this show as well? Matthew Cantrell (talk) 00:35, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ribbon Rack[edit]

Sgt. Bilko's decorations appear to include the Bronze Star, Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medals, some Philippine decorations, etc. Is there a back story to his exploits in the Pacific during WWII? 50.202.81.2 (talk) 06:18, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

see thephilsilversshow.com. My guess is that he bought or traded or faked the paperwork for many of them. Bilko is a staff man, not a line man. But really, it’s just a Hollywood way of signifying that Bilko has had a long career in the miller terry and therefore knows every gimmick. 2001:44B8:3102:BB00:B46D:A792:3797:413D (talk) 07:55, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
