Disambig?[edit]

Does anyone have a problem with turning this page into a disambiguation? The University of Utah and the University of Miami are both specifically referred to as, generally, "The U." - Robert, 12/16/2009

I don't believe it should be turned into a dab page per this discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The UX96lee15 (talk) 14:08, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Much better than having it redirect to the University of Miami. I know Miami likes to promote itself as "The U", but "The U" in general refers to University of <Insert State>, in the same way that "State" is short for what ever the local State University is.--RLent (talk) 21:51, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I screwed up the move I think[edit]

I moved "The U" to "The U (documentary)". However, now all the history associated with "The U" is for the "new" documentary article and I don't think that's what should be what's happening. "The U (doc)" should be a brand-new article and "The U" should keep its history. I'm not up on policy enough to know what to do in this situation. — X96lee15 (talk) 17:08, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move page[edit]

I think this page should redirect to the University of Miami Hurricanes with a note at the top "The U redirects here, if you're looking for the documentary...blah blah" Does anyone have any thoughts?

Requested move[edit]

The U (film)The U – The results of a 3 year old AFD were shafted when this article was written over it, and all of the page history that WP:Articles for deletion/The U discusses are on this page, anyway. Considering that there are now no other topics regarding "The U", this page should not be disambiguated anymore as this is now the only notable topic under this name. If this is not adequate, then perhaps we should split the edit history, but that ends up being more difficult.—Ryulong (竜龙) 08:54, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Keep the completely harmless and tremendously helpful qualifier "(film)". Think of readers searching on Google, for example. So what if no other article is similarly named? That is not a decisive consideration at all. NoeticaTea? 03:02, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Create a disambiguation page instead. I note that the slangy Da U is for some weird reason pointing to UMiami. 76.65.128.198 (talk) 04:53, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. "The U" can mean many things (see U (disambiguation)), i.e. a definite one of anything that is called a U. E.g. currently The U redirects to University. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:37, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New section[edit]

Why does The U redirect to University but Talk:The U redirects to Talk:The U (film)? Shouldn't The U (film) be moved to simply The U and all redirects appropriately targeted? When one searches for "The U" they are not looking for an article about Universities in general. 01:56, 30 May 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.81.25.227 (talk)
