IUCN[edit]

Hi @Plantdrew. I was curious what the purpose and benefit is in removing the IUCN status. Thanks. Primium (talk) 03:51, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Primium: IUCN has almost no records that are listed as Not Evaluated (this is one of the few that is). Absence of a record for a species in IUCN could mean that it has not been evaluated, or it could mean that the taxonomy IUCN is following does not recognize something as a distinct species. With no IUCN record it is impossible to know what the situation is. FishBase lists everything without an IUCN record as NE, without regard to whether the lack of the record is due to lack of an evaluation, or due to IUCN following a different taxonomic point of view than FishBase does. @Plantdrew I see the point you're making. However, IUCN itself says "If a species is not on the website, it is treated as Not Evaluated."[1] Primium (talk) 15:41, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
