Inconsistencies[edit]

Having watched the first two episodes of Vera of Series 2; I'm seeing a few inconsistencies. When the main character is looking at a press clipping of her and her late Sergeant colleague in Episode 1, it clearly identifies her force as Northumberland and City Police (hence my update on the main page) yet in Episode 2, it is now 'Northumbria & City Police'. It is not inconceivable that the force could change its name, however in Episode 2; Vera's rank keeps changing! One minute she's "Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope" and the next, she's a Detective Chief Inspector! Pretty sloppy continuity, I must say! BNC85 (talk) 18:55, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've just continued watching Episode 2 and DC Whelan introduces herself as being from Northumberland & City Police...! BNC85 (talk) 19:55, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • I have now created a new section the article page regarding the above inconsistencies with a screenshot taken from the programme. BNC85 (talk) 09:36, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry to remove the information - but it is essentially original research and you'll need to provide sources - presuming that it is even notable and picked up any coverage.Rain the 1 09:48, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Surely the most worrying thing is that we're expecting to take a 66 year-old actress playing a serving DCI seriously?! Smurfmeister (talk) 09:26, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Response: I call sexism on the above comment, unless the commenter leveled the same criticism against David Jason as Frost and Krister Henriksson as Wallander (just the first two male analogues that came to mind). ---Dagme (talk) 07:24, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Response: You can 'call sexism' all you like - that doesn't make this any more realistic. You don't need to make this into a gender issue. Smurfmeister (talk) 21:18, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody might want to mention that the "City" of "Northumbria and City Police" is Newcastle (aka Newcastle upon Tyne) and that characterizing the language spoken as "English" may be slightly misleading as the Geordie accent can be almost incomprehensible to those unfamiliar with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.64.110.225 (talk) 17:12, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Response: Some extreme Geordie dialects may be difficult to understand, but the English spoken in this series definitely falls within the mainstream of standard English and is easily intelligible to most English speakers. ---Dagme (talk) 07:24, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Moving episode section[edit]

Moving episodes section to its own article. Reason it will free space and we will be able to expand it and make it look nicer and it will look neat on its own page instead of having it where it is. Paladox2017 (talk) 19:51, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Response?[edit]

It would be good to have a "Response" section. In my experience, this is one of the best, if not the very best, of the BBC English mystery series. ---Dagme (talk) 07:28, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

Reference to "Erin Davis' house"... who is Erin Davis? This is not explained further and not cross-referenced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.209.92.191 (talk) 23:45, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. It's been removed. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:06, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

She is credited as acting in this series. What is the name of her character? 174.92.135.167 (talk) 21:59, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Per the page you linked to, and IMDB, she played Sigourney O'Brien in the episode "Muddy Waters" (series 5, episode 3). —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 22:11, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

David Leon left Vera series[edit]

Why did David Leon leave Vera at the end of Series 4?-71.174.188.32 (talk) 03:46, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Helen Milton[edit]

Why is the character of Helen Milton not on the "Cast and Characters"-list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jakobsdatter (talkcontribs) 12:22, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:FIXIT for more info. Basically, if you think it should be added, go for it. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 14:31, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edits[edit]

I've made a number of changes to the article:

  • Conversion of the series overview and episode table headers to templates
  • removed episode summaries that were largely copied from multiple sources, including ITV, tvguide.co.uk, thejournal.co.uk, skygo.co.nz, miami.radiotimes.com, wlrn.org, & IMDB
  • removed episode counts from the cast per WP:TVCAST
the cast table should really be removed. It doesn't add anything of value over the basic actor/character information.
  • removed a couple statements regarding series 7:
    • The statement that the programme as of June had not been renewed depended on an article that had last been updated in February.
    • The statement that the programme had been confirmed by ITV as renewed for 2017 was unsourced. - Ryan8374 (talk) 05:36, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

S1E2: Why was the you-know-what put into the piano?[edit]

In Season1 Episode 2, "Telling Tales", why was the you-know-what (trying not to make spoilers) put into the piano? Presumably the person who put it there had originally procured it to prevent its discovery and protect the owner's identity, so why not just destroy it? Doesn't seem to make any sense! (Sorry, can't help myself for asking, I know this talk section is for improving the article only, not for questions about the show.) UnderEducatedGeezer (talk) 09:03, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Geofpick (talk) 15:14, 3 February 2020 (UTC)) ITV and BritBox’s long-running detective drama Vera is returning for an 11th season. The announcement was made by star Brenda Blethyn at the Winter TCA Press Tour. “We’re going to start working this year and you’ll see it next year,” said Blethyn. Vera viewing figures 2021[edit]

Personally i do not agree with the viewing figures that have been given. They are based on overnight figures which are not accurate and up to date. Twenty eight day figures were always given until a couple of years ago as they are more up to date and are a more precise figure. These recent figures are not reliable or up to date. So i will look at the 28 day viewing figures as they are more accurate. Percy2345 (talk) 04:36, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vera's farmhouse[edit]

We often see a long shot of Vera's Landrover heading out over the causeway to the Holy Island, usually followed by her being at home. However she never seems to be held up by the tides, either getting home or turning out to an incident. Where is the farmhouse meant to be sited? Does Vera have a King Canute ability to command the North Sea? Martin of Sheffield (talk) 15:57, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Martin of Sheffield Sorry, I don’t understand what you’re trying to say here. Does this have anything to do to with the article? Blanchey (talk) 12:13, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just trying to make sense of the in-universe geography. If her farmhouse is meant to be on the Island, the there is the well known issue with the tides - see Lindisfarne#Causeway_safety. If it is not meant to be on the Holy Island, then why do we see shots of her travelling over the causeway? Quite straightforward I would have thought, and very much to do with the article. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 14:37, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Martin of Sheffield Thank you for your response. To be honest, I don’t quite understand so am probably not the most helpful person here! If there is something about it in the article which you’re unsure about, maybe you could change or remove it, if it’s not sourced? Blanchey (talk) 14:56, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not mentioned in the article which is why I raised it here. I'm currently watching the series on itvx from the beginning. At the start she inherits the old farmhouse from her father, and ends up living there. We are often treated to a shot of her driving across the causeway to the Holy Island and the implication is that she is heading home. The problem is, as I'm sure you're aware, that the causeway floods twice a day at high water. There is simply no way on or off by road for around five hours each tide. However, as soon as she receives a phone call she shoots off to a mainland site, regardless of the tide! Now either she is lucky with the tides, or else the whole causeway scene is wrong and the farmhouse is actually on the mainland. Which is it, because it sticks out like the proverbial sore thumb? Is that clearer? Martin of Sheffield (talk) 15:24, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Martin of Sheffield Thank you, I understand what you are saying now. Personally, I don’t think this affects the Wikipedia article, given that it’s not already mentioned anywhere, however, you do make a good point, and maybe people could help you out on a Vera forum or Twitter maybe? Blanchey (talk) 16:18, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, the farmhouse used for the exterior scenes is on the Snook (the "tail" of the Holy Island) at 55°41'10"N,001°50'29" or grid reference NU1006543635. Isn't the location of filming relevant to the article? Martin of Sheffield (talk) 13:00, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Martin of Sheffield If you can support that with a source, then I would say so definitely. Blanchey (talk) 07:38, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if this meets WP:RS. This one certainly doesn't meet WP:RS but does have a lovely picture of the farmhouse. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 09:40, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Martin of Sheffield Yes, I’d say that that’s fine. :) Blanchey (talk) 10:53, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well I've edited in the location, but there's still the magical ability to get on and off the island without regard to the tides. :-o See Lindisfarne#Causeway_safety. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 11:34, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Viewing figures incorrect[edit]

Viewing figures should be UK. At present it is incorrect for 15th Jan 2022. Unreliable. Percy2345 (talk) 22:17, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Percy2345 What would be good is if you could find some sources for the viewing figures, as that would be helpful for our readers, but if you can’t, you might want to consider removing it, because we don’t want to confuse readers. I personally wouldn’t object to this. Blanchey (talk) 07:42, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The current figures that are on there do not take into consideration that these episodes have been delayed for various reasons. Also lots of viewers watch on ITV Hub. Percy2345 (talk) 21:40, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also i know is ITV'S fault but they do not promote/ advertise Vera enough. Many viewers have busy lives so forget easily, due to poor advertising to. Much of the blame is with ITV. I am happy with leaving current viewing figures. However i would perhaps suggest updating and putting est* and just put a note to say viewing figures are estimated due to many delays in Filming etc. We could perhaps do that? Just a suggestion. Let me know what you think please. Thanks. Percy2345 (talk) 01:15, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
