Dame Media?[edit]

I'm not sure that WHP-TV was ever owned by Dame Media? It's my understanding that the Clear Channel Harrisburg radio stations were owned by Dame, but WHP-TV was purchased by Clear Channel from another owner before that? Please correct me if I'm wrong... Dame Media did not own WHP-TV. WHP-TV was owned by Commonwealth Communications, a privately held family owned company who sold it to Clear Channel. WHP AM & FM were also owned by Commonwealth but sold in a separate transaction prior to the TV station sale to Clear Channel. An ESOP buyout of the stations by the employee members of the IBEW was unsuccessful.

checkY Thanks for the clarification. I've updated the article to reflect this. Ihateaubergine (talk) 15:02, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All of that information needs to be cited. Currently, there's no citations to back up anything that's in the article. The above, while likely historically accurate, is original research, and needs to be replaced by a source, whether it's a book, a newspaper, or something online. --Son (talk) 15:20, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Eddie, I've been digging on the FCC website for documentation on WHP's former owner... I found this which seems to indicate that the official former owner's name was "WHP Television LP". I also found this stub of an article that suggests the same. Could this have been a front for Commonwealth Communications? Everything in the FCC's database seems relatively sparce prior to 1996, and per CCU's SEC filings, the station was sold on October 31, 1995. (SEC Filings do not indicate the seller). Commonwealth Media owned WHP AM and WRVV and sold them to Dame Media. The television staion WHP-TV (CBS 21) was sold to Ralph Becker. He held it for about two years before selling it to Clear Channel Communications (Television) in late 1995. At the same time the 20 year LMA was made with Gateway Communications Inc. for WLYH-TV (CBS 15). One month later the station dropped CBS affiliation and became a UPN affiliate. That left WHP-TV as the lone CBS affiliate in the HLLY market. In 2007, Clear Channel Communications entered into an agreement to sell Clear Channel Television (including WHP-TV) to Newport Television. That transaction cleared the FCC late in the year. The deal was completed on March 14, 2008 when WHP-TV and WHP-DT became Newport Television stations.

In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
