A 'type' or just a word?

Re: The Wurdulac, also spelled wurdalak or verdilak, is a type of Russian vampire that must consume the blood of its loved ones and convert its whole family. Alexei Tolstoy wrote most famously of one such family. - In fact, it (Wurdalak, that is; two other versions of pronunciation are unknown in Russian) is not so much a Russian type as a Russian word for 'vampire', which was first used by Pushkin in his 1836 poem of the same name (as part of West Slavic Songs cycle), then by Tolstoy (in his novella written in 1839) and only after that became common. Thought to be a corrupt version of West Slavic 'volkolak' - which stood for 'werewolf', though. Even in ru_wiki there's no separate article on wurdalak, a very literary kind of creature (unlike oupyr, a close relative of vampir) only a section in the Вампиры (Vampires) entry. -- Evermore2 (talk) 14:01, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
