1908–1929[edit]

User:EddieV2003/sandbox1908

Germany played its first match against Sweden on 5 April 1908 (1908-04-05). The worst defeat of the matches played from 1908 through 1929 was to England amateurs March 16, 1909 (1909-03-16). The score was 9–0 in favor of England amateurs. As of January 2014, this defeat is the worst in Germany's history. The biggest win of the matches played from 1908 through 1929 came against Russia on 1 July 1912 (1912-07-01). As of January 2014, this win is the largest in Germany's history.

Germany competed in the football competition at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm. Their loss in the first round of the tournament meant that eight teams advanced farther than they did. No football matches were played between the match against Netherlands on April 5, 1914 (1914-04-05Tdf-y) to the match against Switzerland on 27 June 1920 (1920-06-27) in relation to World War I. After World War I, the International Olympic Committee banned Germany from the 1920 Summer Olympics.[1] This ban also kept Germany from participating in the 1924 Summer Olympics. Germany returned to the football competition at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. Germany was eliminated from the competition by eventual gold medal winners Uruguay in the quarter-finals.

In total, Germany played 70 matches from 1908 through 1929. Of these matches 24 were wins, 13 were draws and 33 were losses. Germany scored 150 goals and allowed 160 goals.

1930–1942[edit]

User:EddieV2003/sandbox1930

Germany competed in their first World Cup in 1934. They finished the tournament in third place by defeating Austria in the third-place match. Germany also competed in the football competition at the 1936 Summer Olympics which were held in Berlin. They were eliminated in the quarter-finals of this competition by Norway. The 1938 FIFA World Cup saw Germany eliminated in the first round after forcing a replay against Switzerland. The anschluss unified Germany and Austria which resulted in Austria's withdrawal from the 1938 World Cup. This unification saw some players from the Austria team join the Germany squad.

Due to World War II, Germany did not compete in international football from 1943 until 1950. In matches played from 1930 through 1942, Germany finished with 72 wins, 21 draws, and 27 losses.
